REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 5, 2016 4:00 P.M.
Present were Board Members; James Currin, Tony Spears, Joseph Powell and Director Claire
Jones.
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from March 22, 2016, Absentee meeting. Mr. Powell moved to
approve the minutes. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
The Board reviewed the minutes from March 22, 2016 Canvass meeting. Mr. Spears moved to
approve the minutes. Mr. Powell seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
Mrs. Jones stated that the One -stop, Absentee by Mail and Provisional ballots have been
processed by VTD and submitted to the State Board successfully.
The Board discussed issues to be addressed from the March Primary Election, such as:
• Uniform polling place set up model for all precincts
• More poll workers/training
• -More laptops for General Election
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that she will contact the student services department at Campbell
University and Central Carolina Community College to recruit more poll workers. Mr. Currin
directed Mrs. Jones to send a letter to the Superintendent and Principals of the Student
Assistants, letting them know what an asset the students are to us on Election Day.
The Board discussed the One -Stop plan for the June 7, Congressional Primary. Mrs. Jones
submitted to the Board, State Board Memo 2016-07, which states that a one -stop plan is not
required if the Board only offers one -stop voting during office hours from May 26 to June 3 and
is open until 1:00pm on Saturday June 4.
Absentee Voting by Mail for the June 7 Congressional Primary will begin April 18. Mrs. Jones
will draft a revised schedule of Election meeting dates for the Board.
With no other business to discuss, Mr. Powell moved to adjourn. Mr. Spears seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 4:33 pm.
The next Board meeting will be its regular meeting on May 3, 2016 at 4:00 pm.
