MEETING MINUTES
January 8, 2013
11:30 a.m.
Present were Chairman Walter Massey and Secretary James Currin.
Also present were Ted Halstead, Elections Director, and Daily Record editor Tom Woemer.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.
Business:
Mr. Currin moved to approve the minutes from the December 4 meeting. Mr. Massey seconded.
The motion was approved unanimously.
Mr. Halstead advised the Board of progress made toward Mrs. Taylor's suggestion of reinstating
a polling place at Buies Creek. Mr. Halstead met with Dr. John Roberson, executive assistant to
the President of Campbell University, who was very positive towards the idea, and promised to
put the idea before their Executive Administration committee.
Mr. Halstead then reported on progress towards relocating the Government Center Commons
polling place to the Lillington Community Center. After speaking with Lillington Mayor Glenn
McFadden, Mr. Halstead learned that Mayor McFadden and the Town Council were still firmly
behind the proposal. Mayor McFadden promised to have the Town Council pass a resolution
reaffirming their support for the move.
Mr. Halstead placed a coding grant application before the Board for their approval, to seek
reimbursement from the State Board of Elections through Federal funds for expenses already
incurred to prepare ballots for elections during 2012. Mr. Currin moved to approve the
application, and Mr. Massey seconded. The motion was approved unanimously.
Mr. Currin noted that he planned to speak to the principal of Boone Trail Elementary School
regarding the possibility of taking the place of the Old Boone Trail Elementary School gym as a
polling place.
Mr. Woerner asked when the Board members were due for replacement following the 2012
general election. Mr. Massey advised that the political parties ordinarily made their selections
during the spring at the county level, and that after a vetting process through the political parties
at the state level and the State Board of Elections they would actually take office this summer.
The next meeting of the Board will be on February 12, 2013, at 11:30 a.m.
Chairman Massey moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded. The motion was approved
unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
