Harnett County Board of Elections
Lillington, NC 27546
A resolution by the Harnett County Board of Elections expressing appreciation for the
dedicated and effective service of Ms. Sherre Toler to the citizens of Harnett County in
her role as Director of Elections from May 8, 2000, to January 3, 2012
Whereas Ms. Toler has made it her goal to ensure that every polling place in the county
is completely accessible to handicapped voters and has succeeded in that effort;
Whereas she understands that an enterprise works best as a team and has worked to
ensure that every member of her administrative staff has completed the training to be
certified by the State Board of Elections;
Whereas she has taken innovative steps to improve poll worker training, using problems
from past elections to strengthen subsequent training sessions in an effort to ensure that
every ballot handed out can be accounted for, that every voter is treated courteously and
fairly, that eligible voters are given the correct ballot, and that voters who do not appear
on the roll for a precinct are given the choice of going to the correct polling place or
voting a provisional ballot;
Whereas she recognizes the importance of accurate and up-to-date voter records and has
led her staff in reducing the number of voter records with incomplete or inaccurate
information from over 15,000 when she took office to fewer than 200 today;
Whereas she has found creative ways to contain the costs of her office, ways that in no
way imperil the integrity of the election process or diminish service to voters;
Now therefore be it resolved, with full approval and adoption by the Board of Elections,
to express appreciation and gratitude to Ms. Sherre Toler for her leadership and service to
the citizens of Harnett County.
