SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
ANGIER MUNICIPAL BUILDING
February 22, 2011
7:00 P.M.
Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor.
Also present was Claudette Williams, Deputy Director and Sherre Toler, Director. One member
of the public was also in attendance.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Business:
Ms. Toler explained the proposed polling place move from the Angier Municipal Building to the
Angier Elementary School and presented pictures of the proposed polling location as well as a
map. Chairman Massey asked the individual in attendance if she had any comments.
Patsy Ellen, a precinct chair, advised that she does believe the current location is appropriate.
She did advise that she doesn't believe schools are good locations either. Ms. Toler did explain
that on general election days the School Board declares it a teacher work day. She also advised
that locations are chosen with outside entrances wherein voters do not have to go through the
school area where children are present in order to go into the voting enclosure. Chairman
Massey indicated that he believed it could provide "teachable moments" for students to become
•-1 aware of the voting process. All three members of the Board expressed their desire to move
from the present location.
The next meeting of the Board will be its regular monthly meeting on March 2, 2011 at 11:30
a.m.
Ms. Taylor moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
