REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
February 2, 2011
11:30 A.M.
Present were Chairman Walter Massey and Secretary James Currin. Member Louise Taylor was
unable to attend.
Also present was Sherre Toler, Director.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.
Minutes:
Mr. Currin moved to approve the minutes of January 4, 2011 and January 14, 2011. Mr. Massey
seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
Ms. Toler advised that the Justice Dept. approved the move to the new office. She also advised
that the building failed a mold test and as a result, additional renovations and cleaning has to be
done. She has been advised by Public Buildings that it may take to the end of March to complete
the renovations and move the office.
Ms. Toler advised that staff was working on list maintenance and had mailed out over 11,000
cards to voters. Notices to Johnsonville, Lillington and Neills Creek voters have also been sent
advising of the polling place change. Boone Trail will be sent as soon as more cards arrive from
the printer. Ms. Toler advised that she had spoken with the Superintendent of Schools and they
were working on a quote for the handicapped ramp at Johnsonville Elementary.
Ms. Toler advised that staff and the Board have been invited to the Commissioners' meeting on
Monday at 9:00 a.m. where they will present the Board of Elections with a resolution thanking
them for the hard work during the 2010 General Election.
The Board discussed public meeting dates for the proposed polling place changes for Angier,
Coats and West Averasboro. February 15, February 16 and February 22 were selected with the
meetings to be held at 7:00 p.m. Ms. Toler will contact Board with locations for each meeting.
Ms. Toler advised that the office received a $3000 grant reimbursement for poll worker staffing
during one -stop voting in the General Election.
Ms. Toler advised that an alcohol petition has been started in Hector's Creek Township. 780
signatures must be obtained no later than April 6.
Mr. Massey mentioned that he received an informal request to consider changing the meeting to
the evening. The Board agreed to discuss it in the future if there appeared to be a formal request
or more interest from citizens.
Ms. Toler advised that she had spoken to the City Attorney for Dunn and the Town Manager for
Erwin regarding redistricting. Both towns are waiting to receive census numbers before deciding
whether or not to postpone elections until next year.
The next meeting of the Board will be its public hearing on February 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The
next regular monthly meeting of the Board will be March 2, 2011 at 11:30 a.m.
Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Mr. Massey seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
