Present were Secretary James Cunin and Member Louise Taylor. Chairman Massey was present via telephone. Also present was Ginger Ballard, Chairman of the Harnett County Republican Party and Sherre Toler, Director. Secretary Currin called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. Business: Ms. Toler advised that she had still not received approval from the Department of Justice regarding the polling place changes and various items had to be completed in order to prepare for the primary election. Ms. Toler advised that she had spoken with the attorney at the Department of Justice and he had not yet begun working on the proposal but would attempt to make an expedited review. According to the coder at the State Board of Elections, the last possible date for finalizing information for our ballot preparation would be March 5, 2010. Ms. Toler recommended that if approval is not obtained by that date, the Board proceed with the election using the old precincts. Additionally, so as not to move a polling place between a primary and general election, Ms. Toler further recommended that the proposed changes go into effect January 1, 2011 if approval is not obtained by that date. After discussion, Ms. Taylor moved to wait until March 5, 2010 for approval from the Department of Justice, and if not forthcoming by that date, to move forward with the current polling places for the primary and general elections. The effective date for the proposed changes would be changed to January 1, 2011. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. The next meeting of the Board will be its regular meeting on March 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Ms. Taylor moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded.
