REGULAR AND ABSENTEE MEETING MINUTES
September 22, 2009
5:00 P.M.
Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor.
Also present was Sherre Toler, Director.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes of August 18, 2009, September 4, 2009 and September 15,
2009. Mr. Currin moved to approve. Ms. Taylor seconded. Approved without dissent.
New Business:
Ms. Toler presented the Board with the absentee poll book, attached hereto and incorporated
herein by this reference. Ms. Taylor moved to approve. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved
without dissent.
Ms. Toler advised the Board regarding the printing of the ballots. Commercial Printing in
Raleigh is now an approved printer and their bid was approximately $7,000 less than Print Elect.
As a result, Ms. Toler advised that she was ordering the ballots for the November election from
Commercial Printing.
Ms. Toler advised the Board that one of the candidates for Lillington, Steven Stone, had not filed
the required paperwork despite repeated requests from the County Board as well as the State
Board. As a result, the State Board of Elections was removing his active status. In the event Mr.
Stone is elected, certification may be delayed until he is in compliance with campaign finance
laws.
Ms. Toler presented the Board with a list of poll workers who have agreed to serve. Ms. Taylor
moved to approve the list as submitted. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent.
Poll worker training for the Erwin election will be held on September 29, 2009 from 6 p.m. to
9:00 p.m. at the Common's Area.
Ms. Toler presented the Board with a letter to former board member Walt Titchener thanking
him for his service. The Board signed the letter for Ms. Toler to send to Mr.Titchener.
Mr. Currin asked the Board if he could transport students from Triton High School to the polling
place on Election Day to observe the voting process. The Board unanimously agreed that it
would be a valuable learning experience for the students and had no objection.
The next meeting of the board will be an absentee meeting at 5:00 p.m. on September 29, 2009.
Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Ms. Taylor seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
