REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
February 19, 2008
2:30 p.m.
Present were Chairman William Randall, Secretary Walt Titchener and Member
Walter Massey.
Erwin Town Commissioner W.N. Porter was also present.
Also present was Sherre Toler, Director.
Mr. Randall called the meeting to order at 2:40 p.m.
Minutes:
Mr. Titchener moved to approve the minutes of January 8, 2008 (although he did
ask for clarification of the time of adjournment). Mr. Randall seconded. Approved
without dissent.
New Business:
Ms. Toler presented the Board with the resolution for the alcohol referendum
from the Town of Erwin. Mr. Titchener moved to schedule the election at the same time
as the primary on May 6, 2008. Mr. Randall seconded. Approved without dissent.
Ms. Toler presented the Board with the resolution for the alcohol referendum
from the Town of Coats. Mr. Titchener moved to schedule the election at the same time
as the primary on May 6, 2008. Mr. Randall seconded. Approved without dissent.
Ms. Toler discussed the grants being provided by the State Board of Elections for
additional one stop sites during the primary. Ms. Toler expressed concern that staff
would have to be working an exceptional amount of overtime in order to efficiently and
accurately ensure that the additional one stop sites are staffed appropriately. The Board
expressed a desire to have at least two additional sites. Ms. Toler suggested that the
additional sites be at Western Harnett High School and Erwin Community Building and
that they only be on Saturdays. Mr. Massey moved to approve the additional one stop
sites to be operated on April 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., April 26 from 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. and May 3 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mr. Titchener seconded. Approved
without dissent. The one stop site at the Board of Elections office will also be open for
those days in addition to the regularly scheduled hours during the week.
Ms. Toler suggested the following times and locations for poll worker training.
March 15 at the BOE office, March 29 at the Ag Building, April 5 at the Ag Building and
April 12 at the BOE office. All times will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with lunch
being served. The Board agreed to those dates and times.
The Board discussed changing its regularly scheduled meeting time from 3:00
p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of the month — to the first Tuesday of the month at Noon.
The next meeting of the Board will be on March 4, 2008 at 12:00 noon.
Mr. Titchener moved to adjourn. Mr. Massey seconded. The meeting was
adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
