HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE-June 5, 2007-Absentee MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS ABSENTEE MEETING MINUTES June 5, 2007 5:00 p.m. Present were Roy Tew, Secretary and Walter Massey, Member. Chairman William Randall was unable to attend Also present was Sherre Toler, Director. Mr. Tew called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. New Business: Ms. Toler presented the board with the poll book of absentee voters through June 5, 2007 at 5:00 p.m, attached hereto and incorporated herein. Mr. Massy moved to approve those ballots. Mr. Tew seconded. Approved without dissent. Ms. Toler advised Mr. Tew regarding the letter from Wake County Board of Elections and the discussions from the previous board meeting. She also presented the board members with a draft of a letter responding to the proposed resolution. After discussion, Mr. Tew and Mr. Massey signed the letter. Ms. Toler advised that she would ask Mr. Randall to stop by the office and review it prior to next weeks meeting. Ms. Toler advised that she, Mr. Randall, the deputy director, the administrative assistant and the head of the IT department traveled to Raleigh to view the demonstration of electronic poll books and the laptop system offered by the State Board. Ms. Toler also advised that she and the head of the IT department met with the county manager to discuss additional funding requirements. Based upon the State Board proposal, Harnett County would receive $39,000. It would cost approximately $55,000.00 to adequately fund this project. The county manager stated that he believed we should accept the grant monies while available and the county would fund the difference. He also indicated that in the event we did not get enough technologically trained poll workers submitted by the parties, he would assist us in utilizing county workers for that purpose. Based upon the presentations, meetings, and the IT department recommendation, Ms. Toler recommended that the county purchase the lap tops from the State Board and utilize the existing SEIMS system. After discussion, the Board agreed to wait until all three board members are present to make a final decision. The next meeting of the Board will be June 12, 2007 at 5:00 p.m, followed by the poll worker training from 6:00 pm. To 9:00 pm. Mr. Massey moved to adjourn. Mr. Tew seconded.
