SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
April 24, 2007
3:00 p.m.
Present were William Randall, Chairman, Secretary Roy Tew and Walter Massey,
Member.
Also present was Tom Woerner, from the Daily Record and Sherre Toler,
Director.
Mr. Randall called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
New Business:
Ms. Toler presented the board with the resolution from the Harnett County Board
of Commissioners requesting the Board of Elections to conduct an ABC election in
Anderson Creek, Johnsonville and Upper Little River Townships. According to the
statute, an election must be scheduled within 60-120 days from the date of receipt of the
resolution which was received April 20, 2007.
Based upon those statutory dates, Ms. Toler advised that for scheduling purposes,
the election could be held between June 19, 2007 and August 18, 2007 and her
recommendation is that the election be held on June 19. Mr. Tew moved to hold the
election in all three townships on that date. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without
dissent.
Ms. Toler suggested that given the geographic location of the townships that in
addition to the required statutory legal notice which would run for four weeks in the
Daily Record, that notices should also be run in the Fayetteville Observer and Sanford
Herald. Mr. Massey moved that notices should run in those newspapers at least two
times. Mr. Tew seconded. Approved without dissent.
Ms. Toler provided the board with the statistics for each township which shows
that Anderson Creek Township covers 3 precincts; Anderson Creek, Barbecue and
Johnsonville. Johnsonville Township is in Johnsonville precinct. Upper Little River
Township covers Boone Trail precinct. Ms. Toler recommended a poll worker training
for those four precincts be held on June 12, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. The Board agreed.
Ms. Toler did advise the Board that a petition drive had begun in the town of
Angier for an ABC election.
The next meeting of the Board will be May 8, 2007 at 3:00 p.m.
Mr. Massey moved to adjourn. Mr. Tew seconded. The meeting was adjourned
at approximately 3:30 p.m.
