HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE-October 10, 2003-Regular MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS REGULAR MEETING MINUTES October 10, 2006 5:00 p.m. Present were William Randall, Chairman, Secretary Roy Tew and Member Walter Massey. Sherre Toler, Director was also present. Mr. Randall called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. Minutes: Mr. Massey moved to approve the minutes of September 12, 2006. Mr. Tew seconded. Approved without dissent. New Business: Ms. Toler advised that she had sent out 66 civilian absentee ballots, 102 military ballots and 1 overseas. She also advised that so far 10 had been returned as undeliverable and 12 voted ballots had been returned. Ms. Toler advised the Board that there were significant problems during testing. 5 M100 machines and 1 Automark did not test correctly. She advised that she contacted ES&S and the State Board to get the machines repaired. The Board discussed the need to have tally sheets prepared for each precinct in the event the machines failed on election day and the ballots have to be hand counted. Ms. Toler indicated she would be preparing those. Staff attended Denim Days and registered 10 new voters. Ms. Toler also advised that Mr. John McKoy on behalf of the Black Caucus requested the Board of Elections conduct registration drives at the High Schools and that was being done this week. Ms. Toler advised that Upper Little River Township took out an ABC petition with 965 signatures due by January 1, 2007. The next meeting of the Board will be October 17, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. There is also poll worker training scheduled for October 10, 2006 and October 12, 2006 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Mr. Massey moved to adjourn. Mr. Tew seconded. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:30 pm. POLLS WILL OPEN AT 6:30 A.M. AND CLOSE AT 7:30 P.M. CANVASS OF THE VOTE SHALL BE HELD AT 11:00 A.M. ON NOVEMBER 17, 2006. VOTERS WHO ARE ALREADY REGISTERED TO VOTE NEED NOT RE- REGISTER. RESIDENTS WHO ARE NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE MUST REGISTER IN PERSON BY 5:00 P.M. ON OCTOBER 13, 2006 OR IF MAILED, THE REGISTRATION MUST BE POSTMARKED BY OCTOBER 13, 2006. ANY VOTER WHO HAS MOVED SINCE THE LAST ELECTION, MUST MAKE THAT CHANGE WITH THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS OFFICE BY THE SAME DATE. A PERSON MAY REGISTER TO VOTE AT THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS OFFICE AT 817 S. 8TH STREET, LILLINGTON, NC BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:00 A.M. AND 5:00 P.M. MONDAY — FRIDAY. ABSENTEE BALLOTS WILL BE SENT OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ACCORDING TO LAWAND MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 6, 2006 AT 5:00 P.M. ONE -STOP ABSENTEE VOTING WILL BEGIN IN THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS OFFICE ON OCTOBER 19, 2006 AT 8:00 A.M. AND END ON NOVEMBER 4, 2006 AT 1:00 P.M. REQUESTS FOR ABSENTEE BALLOTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 5:00 P.M. ON OCTOBER 31, 2006. THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS SHALL HOLD ABSENTEE MEETINGS AT 5:00 P.M. ON OCTOBER 17, 2006, OCTOBER 24, 2006, OCTOBER 31, 2006 AND NOVEMBER 7, 2006.
