Reason for Requested Change:
To amend Harnett County’s U.D.O. use regulations that pertain to required parking spaces for
public elementary & middle schools.
Suggested Statement-of-Consistency: (Staff concludes that…)
The requested Text Amendment is compatible with Harnett County regulatory documents and
the benefits outweigh any potential inconvenience or harm to the community
Therefore, it is recommended that this Text Amendment request be APPROVED.
Planning Board denied this request 5-0. Concerns were existing schools have a lot of parking
issues, future schools will inevitably be over crowded, schools are multi-purpose and used for
many events and occasions, car based society so less parking is rarely a convenience, several
members have experienced on-street parking/ traffic issues due to lack of school parking during
specific functions. One member did suggest that if approved, make this amendment applicable
to Elementary schools only, due to athletic events.
