Minutes of Special Meeting (work session)
August 31, 2006
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Thursday, August
31, 2006, in the conference room, Human Resources Department, 102 East Front Street,
Lillington, North Carolina.
Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman
Beatrice B. Hill, Vice Chairman
Dan B. Andrews
Tim McNeill
Walt Titchener
Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager
Wm. A. (Tony) Wilder, Assistant County Manager
Jennifer Slusser, Staff Attorney
Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board
Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. and led the invocation.
Gary Pope, Emergency Management Director, gave an update on approaching tropical
storm Ernesto. It is predicted that this will be a rain event with possible flooding in low
areas. There is also a threat of possible tornados.
Ben Slaughter and John Tucker discussed issues regarding an industrial development
project in the Chalybeate Springs area.
Mr. Emory reported to the Board and led a discussion on the following matters:
- Central Carolina Community College building project
- Disposition of County-owned house on airport property
- Letter from citizen regarding coyote and fox trapping – will be referred to
Hunting Committee
- Letter from Town of Coats requesting assistance with landfill fees that will be
charged for disposal of debris from clean-up of dilapidated houses – Mr. Emory
will meet with the town managers and the solid waste director then bring
information back to the Board
There being no further business, the work session adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
