Proposal letter to Harnett County Central Permitting office, requesting a variance for building constructed on property. Harnett County Central Permitting and Inspections, Lillington, NC. February 27, 2020 To whom it may concern at the Harnett County Inspections office. This letter is to request and substantiate the grant of a Variance for the building constructed at my residence at 230 Young Road in Angier, NC. I request a variance allowing the metal building located at my property. The building was constructed to the front and to the right (facing the house) side of my residence on my property. The reason for constructing the building where it is primarily due to the vast amounts of flooding that happens on my property behind my home. As you can see in the pictures attached, the land behind my residence slopes down and remains low lying causing it to flood repeatedly and remain wet during most months of the year. The flooding is due to numerous lakes and wetlands that drain into that area. Since purchasing my home and property I have also been told there are underground streams in the area that contribute to the flooding. The building that I constructed enhances the property and is in visual harmony with the existing home and landscape. It still allows access around the property from both sides for any reason that may ever be necessary. Before construction of the building I ensured that it would not interfere with my neighbor’s rights or impede our coexistence with the neighbors and their friendship in any way. The color was chosen to better blend into the landscape and not be an eyesore to the rural community. It was built due to the important need for my family to ensure the security, safety and protection of my our personal property. Not known to me at the time I purchased the property, but I later found out that it has long been established that the property behind my home floods on a regular bases and cannot be used for the construction of any building therefore I did not see any other choice than to put my building on higher ground where it is now constructed. It was my absolute intent to construct this building in a manner that pleases, Harnett County and my neighbors as well for it to be in harmony with this rural areas appearance. Since I purchased this property you can see that I have only done things that I feel will improve the appearance of my home and property and those of my neighbors around me. It was my intention for the building to be as unobtrusive as possible. Granting the proposed Variance allows to protect my property and all the equipment needed for its upkeep. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. Support of Favorable Findings Additionally, the building variance that is being requested for does not encroach or infringe on any neighboring residential properties, nor would it impose any hardship on any neighbors, nor would it serve to create a situation where any neighbor’s quality of life, property value, or peaceful co-existence would be negatively affected. Quite the contrary, the proposed variance would allow me to become a better neighbor, allowing me to help my neighbors with work inside the building and we can enjoy greater personal security through confining our property within the building. Photographs and diagrams in support of the requested Variance are attached here. Building setback from road 67 feet, property line from side 9 ft 6in. Respectfully submitted, Matthew L.
