HomeMy WebLinkAbout080108sHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Minutes of Special Meeting (work session) August 1, 2008 The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, August 1, 2008, in the Commissioners Conference Room, County Administration Building, 102 East Front Street, Lillington, North Carolina. Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman Beatrice B. Hill, Vice Chairman Tim McNeill Gary House Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager Wm. A. (Tony) Wilder, Assistant County Manager Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. Mr. Emory noted that the Town of Angier entered into an agreement June, 2006 with the County to pay 6% interest on funding for the sewer project to new school. Angier has not yet paid anything to the County and has requested relief of that interest payment. The Board authorized Mr. Emory to check with Angier to see if a lower interest rate of 5% would be agreeable. Mr. Emory updated the Board on the following items: - The Town of Coats will invest in sewer extension up Highway 55 North to Ma’s Grill. The sewer line will belong to the County. - An agreement with Campbell University is being drafted for the County to provide water to Campbell. Betty Smith, Tax Administrator and staff members Boyd Beasley and Keith Faulkner gave copies of the Calendar for the Tax Revaluation process to the Commissioners and reviewed with the Board a power point presentation that will be available for civic clubs and other citizen groups throughout the county regarding the upcoming 2009 Tax Revaluation of real property. Representatives from Ramsey, Burgen and Smith, Architects, of Salisbury presented proposed plans for a new county library facility next to Central Carolina Community College in Western Harnett. Chairman Byrd stated he would like to see more publicity regarding the county’s recycling program and recycling container sites. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
