Minutes of Special Meeting (work session)
March 14, 2008
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, March 14, 2008, in the Commissioners Conference Room, County Administration Building, 102 East Front Street,
Lillington, North Carolina.
Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman
Beatrice B. Hill, Vice Chairman
Dan B. Andrews
Tim McNeill
Gary House
Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager
Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board
Joseph Jeffries, Planning Director
Samantha Ficzko, Planner
Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. and had the invocation.
Mr. Jeffries and Ms. Ficzko reviewed and discussed proposed text amendments that will be on the Board’s March 17 meeting agenda. The proposed amendments are for the Zoning Ordinance,
Historic Preservation Ordinance and the Communication Tower Ordinance.
Mr. Emory led a discussion of or noted the following items:
- Town of Coats wants to do something about the old Coats School which is owned by
Bob Stafford. The buildings are unsafe and unsightly.
- Grace Chapel Church wants the county to waive solid waste fees if they clean up the lot
located at Grace Chapel Church Road and Ashe Avenue.
- It was discovered at the Tourism meeting that the County Fair is scheduled for the
same date as the Cotton Festival.
- Hunting laws
- Financing for construction of additional school facilities
There being no further business, the work session, March 14, 2008, adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
