Minutes of Special Meeting (work session)
February 29, 2008
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, February 29, 2008, in the Commissioners Conference Room, County Administration Building, 102 East Front Street,
Lillington, North Carolina.
Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman
Beatrice B. Hill, Vice Chairman
Dan B. Andrews
Gary House
Commissioner Tim McNeill was absent due to being at a BRAC meeting in Fayetteville.
Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager
Jennifer Slusser, Staff Attorney
Kay Blanchard, Clerk to the Board
Gary Pope, Director, Emergency Management
Jimmy Riddle, Fire Marshal
Guests: Ronnie Autry, Manager, City of Dunn
Gary Whitman, Fire Chief, Dunn Fire Department
Jim Burgin, Candidate running for county commissioner
Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.
Mr. Emory gave an overview of a proposal to consolidate fire, rescue and emergency medical services in the City of Dunn and Averasboro Township.
Advantages of the proposal were discussed in detail by Mr. Autry, Mr. Whitman, Mr. Pope, and Mr. Riddle. Chairman Byrd noted that if the services were consolidated, the service upgrade
would cost more money and taxes would have to be raised. A public hearing will be held to allow comments from the public regarding the issue prior to the Board of Commissioners considering
the matter.
There being no further business, the Harnett County Board of Commissioners work session, February 29, 2008, adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
