Minutes of Special Meeting (work session)
February 1, 2008
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, February 1, 2008, in the Commissioners Conference Room, County Administration Building, 102 East Front Street,
Lillington, North Carolina.
Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman
Beatrice B. Hill, Vice Chairman
Dan B. Andrews
Tim McNeill
Gary House
Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager
Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board
Joseph Jeffries, Director, Planning Department
Mark Locklear, Manager, Planning Services
Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.
Mr. Locklear reviewed proposed Zoning Ordinance text amendments the Board of Commissioners will be asked to consider in the near future. Some of the revisions involve sign requirements
including university and college sign requirements. The Planning Department is currently working towards a Unified Development Ordinance and other revisions are necessary to correct
typographical errors, update internal references, reorganize information, clarify regulations and convert lists to tables.
Mr. Emory discussed the following items with the Board:
- Waterline priorities
- Requirement in the Harnett County Voluntary Agricultural District Ordinance for
the Board of Commissioners to establish an Advisory Board. The Advisory
Board shall consist of one representative from each Commissioner’s District plus
an additional two at-large members. All will be appointed by the Board of
Commissioners.
- Anderson Creek Park users meeting – Seven member Steering Committee will
meet in late February.
- Mr. Emory met with citizens today to discuss current hunting issues.
- Harnett County was noted in today’s Triangle Business Journal as one of the
places to look if a business was looking for a place to locate or re-locate.
There being no further business, the work session, February 1, 2008 adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
