Minutes of Special Meeting (work session)
January 4, 2008
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, January 4, 2008, in the Commissioners Conference Room, County Administration Building, 102 East Front Street,
Lillington, North Carolina.
Members present: Teddy J. Byrd, Chairman
Beatrice B. Hill, Vice Chairman
Tim McNeill
Gary House
Commissioner Andrews was absent.
Staff present: Neil Emory, County Manager
Wm. A. (Tony) Wilder, Assistant County Manager
Kay S. Blanchard, Clerk to the Board
Chairman Byrd called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. and welcomed visitors.
Members of Harnett County Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) were present and stated they want to build a group home for men. At present they are looking for land and asked the
Board for its assistance in finding property to place a facility. They would like to start with 6 beds and someone to work there round the clock. If ARC can secure property on which
to place a group home, a HUD grant will provide funds to build the facility.
Other items discussed at the work session were:
Sheriff Rollins talked about staff needed for the new detention center. He noted that the new staff would need to be trained before the move into the new facility.
Mr. Emory announced that Gina Wheeler Daniel has been chosen to fill the vacancy created in the County Manager’s Office when Shirley Wicker retired.
The Board’s annual retreat will be held January 18 & 19 in New Bern.
There being no further business, the work session adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
