HomeMy WebLinkAboutUnderwood_ED thoughtsHi Jay, Thank you for making us aware of this. I did do a drive by. From a quick perspective, with the quarry operating across Hwy 210 in close proximity, it seems like a reasonable request even though that is not how it is outlined in the LU Plan. And I know they have certainly outgrown their current in-town location. To say much more, I would really need to talk to Wayne about his plans including the operation, machinery, other investment, job creation, etc. The adjoining Melton property has been on the market for years. I haven’t researched the infrastructure, but wonder if there might be potential for other similar industrial development since the tract is so large and on both sides of the highway. You guys are the expert planners. I am interested in hearing your perspective and learning from you guys on this one, especially with the proximity to the river and given that once the rezoning is done, it opens the door. Also, it looks like there is still some farming going on even though apparently the chicken operation is no longer in business. We are studying, working with surrounding counties, the benefit of creating an Agricultural Enterprise Zone which would provide specific incentives for agricultural value-added activities, but that is very preliminary. I don’t know that my thoughts here are worth much to you. Again, I am interested in hearing your assessment of the request. Angie Angie C. This is the Concrete Foundations, Inc business that is currently in Lillington on McNeil St. they are proposing a rezoning of RA-20R to Industrial to relocate the concrete crushing operations. To my understanding, they hope will use the existing chicken houses for storage of the concrete, the crushed product I assume. According to the LU Plan, the classification is Agriculture. No similar zoning in the area, however there is a large rock quarry across the street that has been there for many yrs. Any thoughts would be great.
