To whom it may concern:
I am a homeowner in the Victoria Hills II housing community. When I moved to Harnett six years ago I specifically looked for and thought I had found a quiet community. Shortly
after I moved in I heard some rifle fire in the distance. Having moved from Pennsylvania and being in support of hunting I was not immediately concerned. In a community of hunters I
find it normal to hear the occasional shot during hunting season and when hunters are sighting their rifles.
At the time I moved in I was unaware of the Drakes Landing facility and had I known it was there would have chosen another location. Over the first couple of years I lived in Victoria
Hills Drakes landing was operating as a sporting clays facility. As soon as the rifle ranges were open the noise increased dramatically up to and including semi and automatic weapons
fire and explosions through some days and on several occasions into the evenings. The noise was in some cases loud enough so I could hear it indoors. In addition to the noise concerns
I have safety concerns. Stray shots have hit houses in the area and increased use of this facility for rifle fire will only increase this risk.
I have read some of the letters in support of the Drakes landing facility and in some of the letters I have read they mention traveling from another county to this facility and
the business that if brought to Harnett county as a result. I would ask them why if this is such a good business model are they not starting such a facility in their own county and eliminate
the need for the extra travel needed?
I stand in opposition to the Drakes landing conditional use permit on the grounds of noise and safety concerns effecting the quality of life in my community.
