HomeMy WebLinkAboutNO Drakes Landing-McLean CBoard of Adjustment Members: I am a resident of Chalybeate Springs living one mile from Drake Landing. I wanted to have a voice regarding the Conditional Use Permit. As a working mother with children, I am unable to attend the evening meetings. In general, I do not want over regulation of any level of government into my affairs. The exception to this is the safety of me and my family. As stated, I have three children who play outside regularly within a short distance of what has been an unregulated pistol and rifle range. These ranges were put into place without the voice of the community in which I live. The noise is a nuisance (especially on Sundays), yes, but the danger has been my greatest concern. I would encourage you to ride around Chalybeate Springs Road, Purfoy Road, Hilliard Road, Atkins Road, Rawls Church Road etc. This is a highly populated area with a good number of children. Is Harnett County ready to take the responsibility for the safety of a pistol and rifle range in such close proximity to all of these people? Would you want your children playing that close to a range that is, again, unregulated? Drake Landing has even offered ‘Groupon’ deals with Aviator Brewery in Fuquay Varina. Do alcohol and guns mix well? Do the folks who go to Drake Landing have any training with weaponry? Many may, but the novice is also among them (as evidence by a pre-wedding bachelor party that one of my nephews had there). All of this is also in conjunction with the lack of oversight concerning the berm heights and trajectory regulations causing a constant threat (per the recent inspection). We are strong supporters of Second Ammendment rights. Gun ownership is important to us-that is not the issue at hand. Safety is. I would beg you, please, as a resident of this county and of Chalybeate Springs, to consider heavily the role the county wishes to play in allowing such a permit in regards to the safety of its citizens. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, Krissy McLean
