HomeMy WebLinkAboutNO Drakes Landing-DoeringI sincerely hope that the public hearing will weight the voice and opinion of residents of Harnett County over the customers who have been frequenting Drake Landing over the last several years while they operated under the guise of agri-tourism. It is amazing that it took so many years to work its way through the court system, and once it finally did and Drake Landing was told that their commercial gun operation was not exempt from zoning and permitting processes as agri-tourism, they are able to so quickly turn around and get a hearing for a conditional use permit. I would think that if the world were just, that Drake Landing should have to work their way through the courts in the same tedious process before they are even eligible to request a conditional use permit. As far as I am concerned, any request for a conditional use permit should be delayed for the same amount of time that the people / community and property owners unfortunate to be within several miles of Drake Landing have been inconvenienced by the incessant gun activity. This would be at least 7 years before they should even be able to submit a request for a conditional use hearing. And even as they have been told that their gun activity is not allowed, gun activity has continued. It has been to a much lesser degree, but the activity continues, and Drake Landing's owners are advertising to their former / current customers to come on out and support them at the public meeting. Let them build an indoor shooting range if they want to operate a gun operation. This will contain the noise and the bullets so that the immediate community and property owners adjacent to Drake's Landing are not subjected to constant gunfire, devalued property (which will come back as lower tax revenues for the county and less money for the budget and local schools), as well as the ongoing safety concerns of excessive gun activity in a populated area. Let them buy property that is not surrounded by residential property that was developed before they decided to turn their agricultural property into a full blown gun range. Let them buy out the surrounding property owners if they want to use that location, they can start by buying my home at the purchase price I paid 10+ years ago.
