HomeMy WebLinkAboutDrakes Landing-Jones SHarnett Co. Board of Adjustment,
I retired and moved to Neills Creek Farms 30 years ago. My wife chose this property and area for it's beauty and peacefulness, if she was alive today she would be devastated at what
has happened to our once idyllic existence. At 85 and after a career in the military as well as the state department, I thought that I would be able to enjoy my retirement in peace but
the noise from Drake Landing has shattered the quiet that I once enjoyed and taken the pleasure out of being outside or sitting on my sun porch. After serving in both Korea and Vietnam,
I never thought that I would have to listen to the level of gunfire that I am now reduced to hearing on a daily basis. I cannot imagine what some of our returning veterans, who have
moved here and are suffering from PTSD feel when they hear the gunfire. I know that I don' t want to relive that time and I'm certain that they don't want to either.
My other concern is in regard to property values. When I am gone and my children and grandchildren inherit this property, what will happen if they decide to sell? How will the proximity
of a shooting range affect the value? I cannot believe that the value of the property will increase because of the nearness of a shooting range as most people are more interested in
how good are the schools and how safe are the neighborhoods.
As Neills Creek Farms contains rather large lots and we pay our property taxes based on the acreage, I don't see how visitors that come for the day and MAY spend some money here can
compare with the Harnett County residents that live here. We shop and eat here, therefore we pay the majority of the sales taxes and I think that we should have a greater input as to
what happens in our county. I question the thinking process of the owners of Drake Landing when they started all of this without going through the proper channels and then partner with
a brewery from Wake County to bring a party bus to the range, after which they return to Wake County, how does this add any money to Harnett County coffers? I fail to understand how
preference can be given to those that live outside of our community.
I sincerely hope that the BoA will consider all factors including the residents of Harnett County that are being negatively impacted before making their decision.
Thank You,
Sammie N. Jones Ret.
