WHEREAS, Gary A. House was elected to the Harnett County Board of Commissioners in 2006, and was
re- elected in 2010, serving two consecutive terms for a total of eight years of service; that during his term in office,
Gary has been elected by his fellow Commissioners as vice chairman; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as County Commissioner, Gary House has seen Harnett County experience.
tremendous population growth and development as a crossroad between the expansion of the Capital area/Research
Triangle and the Fort Bragg Military Reservation. With this growth came the issues and challenges of providing
adequate local government services, development of infrastructure and creating education and recreation
opportunities for the citizens of Harnett County; that Gary A. House has been a vigilant and dedicated
Commissioner responding to these challenges as evidenced by the following County milestones:
• Creation of the Harnett Health System and initiation of the Brightwater Science and Technology Campus
which includes the Harnett Health System_ Central Hospital and the Central Carolina Community College
Health Science Building
• Implementation of the Leake- Goforth study with the creation of the Harnett Forward Together Committee
(HFTC) and the construction of three certified business parks
• Construction of numerous new schools and school improvement projects
• Expansion of the largest rural water and sewer utility system in North Carolina
• Creation of the Veteran's Park, Dunn -Erwin Rail Trail, River Park and West Park
• Adoption of a comprehensive planning Unified Development Ordinance
• " Collaboration with Campbell University through facility use agreements to support the construction of the
Convocation Center and the new medical school: and
WHEREAS, during his years of Commissioner service, Gary House has used his expertise as a CPA in
exhibiting a keen understanding of the County budget process as he has supported balanced and responsible fiscal
policies for the County. Gary House has been a strong advocate for enhanced local mental health services,
increased County recreation opportunities, the establishment of a capital project finance fund for new schools, and
the responsible use of Harnett County's greatest natural resource, his beloved Cape Fear River; and
WHEREAS, Gary House's service record, his deep concern for good ethical local government and his
strong commitment to provide better services to all the citizens of Harnett County have earned him the honor:
respect and esteem of his fellow citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT, RESOLVED, that the Hamett County Board of Commissioners does
hereby express sincerest appreciation in honoring Gary A. House for his stalwart and outstanding service and for
his many contributions for the betterment of Harnett County; the Board further extends to Gary, his wife, Gina and
their children, Kayla and Tyler its best wishes for good health and success in their future endeavors.
