HomeMy WebLinkAbout04301954313 APRIL 30, 1954 The Harnett County Board of Commissioners met in the Courtroom in Lillington at 2:00 P.A. on Friday, April 30, 1954, to receive and open bids for the construction of the Lillington Health Center Building. Chariman Tart and Commissioners Byrd and Ingram were present along with William Moore Weber, Architect for the project, Mr. B. K. Jones, Mr. G. W. Hewitt of the Medical Care Commission and numerous bidders. The low bids submitted were as follows: N ame John W. Seymour Carolina Sales and Service J. J. Barnes J. J. Barnes General Contract Heating Contract Plumbing Contract Electrical Contract Price 423,337.50 1,408.00 2,750.00 2,650.00 Upon motion of Commissioner Byrd, seconded by Commissioner Ingram, the Board voted unanimously to award the contracts for the construction of the Health Center to the low bidders above set out at and for the prices above stated, sub- ject, nowever, to the approval of the North Carolina Medical Care Commission. March 22, 1954 The County Board of Commissioners convened and sat as a County Board of Equali- zation and Review for their First meeting of 1954 on Monday March 22, 1954, at 10:00 in the court house at Lillington, N. C. The meeting was called to order by Chairman L. A. Tart. Before entering upon their duties all members present subscribed to the following oath and filed same with the clerk of the board of County Commissioners: I , do solemnly swear that I will faithfully discharge my duties as a member of the board of Equalization and Review of riarnett County, North Carolina and that I will not allow my actions as a member of said board to be influenced by a personal or political friendsnip or obligation. Johnson, Clerk march 22, 1954 All townships on the north side of Cape Fear River were given the opportunity to come in and be heard on any changes in real property having taken place during the year 1953. Mrs. George J. Hodges, G. C. Mitchell, Jr., George F. Blaylock, and Leon McKay, all of Averasboro Township, appeared before the board asking for relief on increased ualues placed on their property by the County Appraisal Board. There was not any relief given to Ans. George J. Hodges, G. C. Mitchell, Jr.'s improvement on his res- idence tas reduced from 4200. to 4150. George Franklin Blaylock's value on his new residence was reduced from 46,500. to 48,000. and Leon McKay's value of 47,500. on his new residence was reduced to 47,250. The County Appraisal Board was asked to cneck the property of J. A. Hardison located on West Board Street in Dunn, N. C. The Board recessed for the second and final meeting to be veld April 12, 1954. April 12, 195_}t The County Board of Commissioners convened as a board of Equalization and Review for their second and final meeting for 1954. All townships on the south side of Cape Fear River were neard. Mr. S. S. Adcock appeared before the Board asking for the values on his property located on Main Street in Lillington, N. C. to be re- duced. The Commissioners asked the County Appraisal Board consisting of D. B. Dean, E. H. Lasater, and Berles C. Johnson what they thought of the values already placed on 14r. Adcock's property. this committee thought that Mr. Adcock's values were in line with other similar property at like locations, and asked that the Board of Commission- ers visit the above mentioned property in order that their minds might be satisfied about values on property. The Board of Equalization and County Aide Appraisal Board immediately visited the property in question and all agreed that values were in line with other similar property. All complaints having been heard and reviewed the Board of Equalization and Review adjourned for the year 1954. Berles C.
