HomeMy WebLinkAbout010419549 JANUARY 4th. 1954 The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, January 4th. 1954, at 10 :30 A. M., with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to Board. The report of Robert B. Morgan, Clerk Superior Court, was approved and ordered filed. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. Tne report of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Orricer, was approved and ordered filed. The report of D. P. Ray, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. The reports of B. H. Sellars and Roy Godwin, Electrical Inspectors, of Harnett County were approved and ordered filed. Commissioner Worth Lee Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner B. P. Ingram that J. J. Barnes give an itemized specification of the cost for installing 5000 gal. capacity tank for the Cornelius Harnett Boarding Home and the County Attorney is hereby authorized to advertise for bids in the News & Observer. Motion carried. Upon motion of Commissioner Ingram, seconded by Commissioner Lasiter, the Board voted unanimously to pay t� Constables for destroying stills the following schedule of fees. A. For each man arrested and convicted $20.00 B. For each Cap Board and other satisfactory evidence that still was destroyed 0_0.00 C. For condenser in addition to item listed in B. above $5.00, provided nowever, that cap board and /or condenser shall be tagged with name of constable bringing the same in. Motion carried. C Commissioner Worth Lee Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Lasater that the Welfare Board be authorized to raise the salary of Mrs. Leo Kelly from $180.00, to $200.00 per month effective January lst. 1954, and to employ Miss Mildred Bradsher at $200.00 per month. Motion carried. The Board authorized Miss Wilma Williams, Supt. of Welfare, to provide meals at local cafe for Mr. Clarence Bryant for a period of two weeks on account of physical disability. The Board ordered that David Allen Ivey, Erwin, N. C., be released of Poll Tax for a period of one year on account of physical disability. The Board ordered that Johnnie R. Core of the Veterans Administration at Oteen, North Carolina, be released of Poll Tax on account of physical disability for a period of one year. The Board ordered tnat E nest G. Barker was recently called to receive his eternal reward; And, WHEREAS,Ssaid Honorable J. S. Barker rendered faithful and outstanding service to Harnett County and its citizenship as a former member of The Harnett ,County Board of Commissioners, and in His passing the said Harnett County Board of Comm- issioners feel that the County has lost one of its outstanding citizens and desire to express their regret over his passing; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Harnett County Board of Commissioners that said board does hereby acknowledge the outstanding service rendered to Harnett County by Mr. Barker and expresses its regret over his passing and ex- tends to his family its sincere expression of sympathy; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that ar_Cppy of these minutes be family of Mr. Barker.
