Minutes of Board of Equalization and Review for year 1955 March 21, 1955.
The County Board of Commissioners Convened and sat as a County Board of
Equalization and Review for their First meeting of 1955 on Monday March 21, 1955,
at 10:00 in the court house at Lillington, N. C. All Commissioners were present,
namely: L. A. Tart, R. L. Pate, Glen Johnson, B. P. Ingram, and J. E.Womble.
The meeting was called to order by chairman, L. A. Tart. Before entering upox
their duties all members of the board subscribed to the following oath and filed
same with the clerk of the Board of County Commissioners:
I , do solemnly swear that I will faithfully discharge
my duties as a member of the Board of Equalization and Reviews of Harnett County,
North Carolina, and that I will not allow my actions as a member of said board to
be influenced by a personal or political friendship or obligation.
This the 21st day of March 1955.

The following townships were given an opportunity to come in before the
Equalization Board and be heard: Only taxpayers who had their real estate values
affected or disturbed as much as 4100. during the year 195L were entitled to appear
before the Equalization Board: buckhorn, Hector's Creek, Neill's Creek, Grove,
Averasboro, and Duke.
No complaints reached the board of Equalization and Review. The Board recessed
for the second and final m,eting to be held on April 18, 1955.
APRIL 18, 1955
The County Board of Commissioners convened as a board of Equalization and
Review for their second and final meeting for 1955. The following townships were
given the privilege of appearing before the Equalization Board: black River,
Stewart's Creek, Anderson Creek, Lillington, Upper Little River, Barbecue, and
Johnsonville. The only complaint to come before th Board was Hugh McCormick in
interest of some timber that had been cut on the McCormick, Heirs property. On
recommendation and in view of the fact that timber on A. A. McCormick, Heirs
property had been charged on the tax books the Tax Supervisor suggested that
credit be given for said timber removed from said property through the regular
channels of the Tax Supervisor's department.
After ample time had been given for the hearing of complaints from the various
townships mentioned, the Board of bqualization and Review adjourned for the year
of 1955.
