HomeMy WebLinkAbout11051956582 NOVEMBER 5th. 1956 The Board of Commissioners met in regular sessinn on Monday, November 5th., 1956 with all members present, also present were the County Attorney, theAuditor, and the Clerk to Board. The report of D. P.Ray, Tax Collector, was approved and filed. The report of Elizabeth F. Matthews, Clerk SuperiorCourt, was approved >arid filed. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of 'Deeds; was approved and filed. The report of Kyle Harrington, Clerk Recorders Court, was approved andfiled. The report of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer, was approved and filed. The report of Earl Wells, Dog Warden, was approved and filed. The reports of Roy Godwin and B. H. Sellers, Electrical Inspectors, were approved and filed. The resignation of Leon Smith, Rural Policeman of Harnett County, was accepted with regrets to take effect December 1st, 1956. Commissioner R. L. Pater moved, seconded by Commissioner J. E. Womble, that Patrolman R. B. Leonard be allowed to erect a Highway safety sign on Courthouse Square sponsored by the Boy Scouts. Motion carried. Commissioner J. E. Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner R. L. Pate, that. County employees come under Social Security Coverage to become effective January 1, 1957. Motion carried. The following road petitions were approved: (1)- To add to Highway System and maintain that road in Upper Little River Township; which runs from Clive Byrd's to Arnold Nordans known as Byrd & Nordan Road a distance of 5/10 miles. (Petition given to Arnold Nordan for presentation) (2)- To gravel and sand clay that road in Stewart's Creek Township, which runs from Sam Byrd's farm or road leading from McLean's Chapel Church to James McArtan Farm and enters old Wire Road near Seaberry home -a distance of 2 miles. (Petition given to Pete McLean for presentation). (3) That road in Averasboro Township, which runs from Jonesboro Road at residence of S. A. Holmes southerly to Hard top road at residence of Charlie Tannery known as Old Hodges road. (Petition given to Chas. 0. Penny for presen- tation' (4) To pull up an drag that road in Stewart's Creek Township which runs from Bunnlevel -Erwin Highway running south to Linden -Road known as dead end road less than 4/10 miles in distance. (Petition given to Commissioner Wombletfor presenta- tion) (5) To build that dirt road in Grove Township, which runs from Coats - Benson Road to Andrew Cooper Farm to the road connection at Tinker Howard Store and Bailey Cross Road at W. K. Ennis Farm known as Connecting Farm Road a distance of 1 mile. (Petition mailed to State Highway Commission) Fayetteville, N. 0/ (6) To widen and pull up that road in Upper Little River Township which runs from H. B. Clayton farm to I. E. Gilmores Farm a distance of 9/10 miles/ (Petition mailed to State Highway Commission, Fayetteville, N C) (7) To sand clay that road in Stewart's Creek Township, which runs from curve to loop road to immediately back of-Henry Elliott's Gin on Erwin Bunnlevel Road a distance of 1 -8/10 miles. (Petition given to Wm. S. Wellons for presenta- tion) The Board ordered the County Offices closed -for Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1956. TheBoard ofered the offiees to be closed 2 hours for the funeral of Grover C. Henderson, Coroner. The Board adjourned.
