HomeMy WebLinkAbout08171956562 AUGUST 17th. 1956 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session,on Friday, August 17th., at 7 :30 P. M., with all members present except Commissioner R. L. Pate who was absent on account of illness. The Auditor was present and also the Clerk to the Board. Commissiioner Johnson moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that the Thurman C. Ennis &CCo. set up an adequate Book Keeping System in the Sheriff's office. Motion carried. Carl Parnell oP the Thurman C. Ennis Company presented a report era the examina- tion of accounts of the County Offices for the year ending June 30th., °1956, Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner Johnson, that this Audit as presented by Mr. Parnell be excepted. Motion carried. The Board ordered the County Offices closed September 1st, through September 3rd. for Labor Day. Commissioner Johnson moved, seconded by Commissioner Womble, that the tax receipt Books now in possession of the Tax Supervisor, be turned over to D. P. Ray, Tax Collector, for the collection of the 1956 Taxes effective as of August 18th. Motion carried. Upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Johnson, that Lee Upchurch , County Jailor,, be authorized and instructed to feed only the prisioners confined to the jail, the cook and the jailor's family. Motion carried. r Upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Johnson, the following resolution -was unanimously adopted. WHEREAS' the Tax Supervisor for Harnett County has advised the Board of' County, Commissioners that the tax books containing the tax levy for the year 1956 are now ready for delivery to the tax collector to the end that said tax collector may commence the collection of the taxes set forth and contained in said books; and WHEREAS, Thurman C. Ennis and Company, CPA, has audited the 1955 -56 records of the Harnett County Tax Collector and reports said records to be i.rjproper order and all funds handled and received by said Tax Collector properly accounted for; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board -of Commissioners of Harnett County as follows: 1. That the 'tax Supervisor shall and he is hereby ordered and directed to.forth- with deliver to the Tax Collector the tax books for Harnett County for the year 1956. 2. That the Tax Co]y.ctor of Harnett County shall and he is hereby authorized, empowered and commanded to immediately begin the collection of the taxes set forth in the tax books.' 3. That H. D. Carson, Jr., Harnett County Auditor and collector of prepaid taxes shall and he is hereby ordered and directed to forthwith furnish to the Harnett County 'lax Collector such records of information as shall be necessary to fully disclose to said Tax Collector all prepaid taxex by him collected for the year 1956. NORTH CAROLINA HARNETT COUNTY NOTICE AND ORDER To D. P. Ray Jr., Harnett County Tax Collector: You are hereby authorized, empowered and commanded to collect the taxes set fort in the 1956 tax books filed in the office of the Harnett County Tax -Supervisor and tax receipts herewith delivered to you in the amounts and from the taxpayers like- wise therein set forth, and such taxes are hereby declared to be a first lien on al real property of the respective taxpayers in Harnett County, and this order shall be a full and sufficient authority to direct, require and enable you to levy upon and sell any real or personal property of such taxpayers, for and on account there- of, in accordance with law Witness my hand and the official seal of Harnett County this 17th day of August, 1956.
