The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, May 7th. 1956,
at 10sO0 A. M., with all members present. Also present were the Clerk to Board,
the County Attorney, and the Auditor.
The report of Elizabeth F. Matthews, Clerk Superior Court, was approved and
filed.
The report of Kyle Harrington, Clerk Recorders Court, was approved and
filed.
The report of D. P. nay, Tax Collector, was approved and filed.
The report of Inez Harrington, hegister of Deeds, was approved and filed.
The report of Earl H. Wells, Dog Warden, was approved anH filed.
The report of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer, was approved and
filed.
1'he reports of Hoy Godwin and B. H. Sellars, Electrical Ins-pectors, were
approved and filed.
Commissioner Pate moved, seconded by Commissioner Johnson, that Thurman C.
Ennis & Co, be awarded the work to make the annual Audit of the County Offices
at a cost not to exceed *1500.00, Motion carried.
Be it resolved that the lot in Buckhorn Township was formerly listed to
H. T. McCotter and acquired by Harnett County at tax foreclosure sale under
Judgment # SD t#2525 A -156j be sold to Mrs. Claudia McCotter, tor the sum of
4309.45. The Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute deed to
Claudia McCotter and the Clerk to the Board will attest same.
The following Hoad Petitions were approved:
1. To hard surface that road in Grove Township, which runs from highway
if 40 near the home of Joe Penny to the Town of Coats a distance of 2 miles.

2. 1'o pull up and grade that road in Averasboro Township which runs from
Mary Stewart road to service :Wad on New Highway ,q 301 a distance of 6/10
miles.

Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner Ingran
Douglasses at the Seminole Home be paid 430.00, per month for
the home, not to exceed 10 childred at one time in the home.

Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner Johnson, that a window be
repaired, two blinds repaired and buy a new blind for the Lawyers Library. Motion
tarred.
The Board accepted the resignation of Margaret R. Randall, Assistant Home
Demonstration Agent, effective May 31, 1956.
Upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Ingram, the
Board voted unanimously to employ Miss Sarah Ficquette as Assistant Home
Demonstration Agent, effective July 1, 1956, at the same salary as is now being
paid Mrs. Margaret Randall. Motion carried.
Davey Jo Lumsden, Acting Supt. of Harnett County Welfare, with Ted Malone of
the Harnett County Welfare Board, appeared before the Board and presented the
1956 -1957 estimated Budget.
Upon Motion of Commissioner Johnson, seconded by Commissioner Womble, the
following resolution was adopted by unanimous vote:
WHEREAS in rebruary, 1944, Harnett County purchased from the U. S.
Treasurer five Series F. United States Government Bonds of the face amount of
450u0.00'each, said bonds Dearing Serial Nos. V- 200645 -F through V- 200649 -F,
inclusive, which bonds are entitled, "Harnett County'Township Hoad Refunding
bonds Sinking Funds) Harnett County, North Carolina'; And

WHEREAS' said bonds have now matured and should be cashed and redeemed,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett
County that said bonds be surrendered for redemption and that Herbert B. Carson,
Jr., Harnett County Auditor, be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to
surrender and deliver said bonds to the Bank of Lillington, Lillington, North
Carolina, for redemption and payment, and the said Herbert D. Carson, Jr. is
also authorized and empowered to execute said bonds and such other instrtments as
may be necessary in order to obtain payment thereof.
