HomeMy WebLinkAbout03051956510 March 5th. 1956 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, March 5th. 1956, at 10:00 A. M., with all members present with the exception of R. L. Pate who was absent. the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to Board were all present. the report of Elizabeth F. Matt ews, Clerk Superior Court, was presented and ordered filed. The report of D. P. hay, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. The report of Kyle Harrington, Clerk of Recorders Court, was approved and ordered filed. The report of L. B. McLean, Veteran's Service Officer, was approved and ordered filed The report of Earl Wells, DoT tiarden,was presented, approved and ordered filed. The report of Roy Godwin and B. H. Sellers, County Electrical Inspectorswere approved and filed. Glenn Johnson moved, seconded by J. E. Womble that Dr. Hunter be allowed to buy an electric typewriter for the Health Department. Motion carried. Commissioner B. P. Ingram moved, seconded by Commissioner Glenn Johnson, that the Judicial Council of Harnett County be authorized to use the facilties of the three rooms adjoining the court room for a Judges Chamber, a conference room and th Lawyers Library. These rooms to be adjoined by cutting of doors. Motion carried. Commissioner B. P. Ingram moved, seconded by Commissioner J. E. Womble that Elizabeth Matthews be allowed to buy an electric typewriter for the Clerks office at the cost of 4430.00. Motion carried. Commissioner Glenn Johnson moved, seconded by Commissioner B. P. Ingram, that Berles Johnson be given authority to pay the maxium salary of $1.00 per hour for additional help in the tax Supervisor's office. Motion carried. Willie Glover, Duke township, was ordered released from poll tax for the year 1956 on account of Physical disability. The Board ordered the County Offices closed on Monday, April 2nd. for plaster The following road petitions were approved: To -make an all- weather, either oil- treated or asphalt, (1) that road in stewart's Creek Twp. which runs from Bunnlevel Erwin Highway to Byrd's Mill, Erwin Road, a distance of 1.8 miles. Petition given to B. P. Ingram for presentation to highway Commission. (2) To pull up that road in Upper Littlehiver Township, which runs from Northington Road to home of Roy H. Brown known as Community Road a distance of 5/10 miles. Petition given to B. P. Ingram for presentation to highway Commission. Security Bond for William Pali Manning, Ponstabie with the Empyoyers Liability Assurance Corp. L. Salmon Heirs taxes paid Harnett County on two lots located behind the Methodist Cnurch in Block 43 as shown on the Kelly Map of the 'own of Lillington. Said request was based on the fact that said lots had been listed to the M. L. Salmon Heirs at a value of $1,000 for several years when in fact sucn lots were of owned by said heirs, but were listed to them in error. Thereupon the following resolution was introduced: Whereas, it has been m de to appear to the satis ?'action of the Harnett County Board of Commissioners that certain lots located behind the Methodist Cnurch in Block 43 according to the Kelly Map of the 'Town of Lillington have been listed for county tax purposes to the neirs of M. L. Salmon at a value of $1,000 and the taxes thereon paid by said neirs; Whereas, said lots were not owned by said heirs, but were in fact formerly owned by Mrs. Mattie McPherson who listed said lands for taxes and paid the taxes thereon until she sold said lots to the Lillington Methodist Church; And Whereas, Neill McKay Salmon nas filed with this Board a written request to have the taxes paid by the M. L.Salmon Heirs on said lots refunded and this Board is of the opinion that the sane should be refunded for the years 1954 and 1055 by reason of the fact that said property was listed to the M. L. Salmon Heirs in error and no taxes are due on said lots. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BCAHD OF COMMISSIO,ERS OF H : +RNETT COUNTY That the taxes paid on said lots by the M. L. Salmon Heirs for the years 1954 and 1955 be remitted and refunded to them pursuant to the authority granted in Section 105 -405.1 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, and the Auditor of Harnett County shall and he is nereby authorized to issue and deliver to Neill McKay Salmon, attorney for M. L. Salmon Heirs, check covering such refund in the sum which the Tax r18 Supervisor and Tax Collector of Harnett County shall determine to be the amount of the taxes and penalties, if any, paid on said lots for the years 19514 and 1955. Upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Ingram, the fore- going resolution was unanimously adopted. Upon Motion of Commissioner Womble seconded by Commissioner Ingram the tobacco acreage at the Cornelius Harnett Boarding Home was rented to J. H. Atkins, for the year 1956 for the sum of 4125.00, per acre. . Motion carried,. TheBoard adjourned to reconvene Monday, April 2nd. at 8t30 A.M.
