A delegation of citizens appeared before the Board with Earl H. Wells,
County Dog Warden and presented a petition signed by approximately three hundred
Harnett County citizens wherein the Board was requested to-secure the appointment
of the County Dog Warden and his Assistant as Rabies Inspector for Harnett County.
The members of the delegation orally joined in such request and stated that in
their opinion a more effective rabies controlled program could be carried oit at a
smaller cost to dog owners if such request should be allowed.
The County Dog Warden gave the Board a schedule showing the estimated cost
of vaccinating the dogs in -the County and pointed out that in his opinion the
vaccine could be administered at a cost of approximately fifty cents per dog -
in the event he and his assistant should be authorized to administer the, vaccine.
Thereupon, upon motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner'"'Cameron,
the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS, a large number of Harnett County citizens have requested tie Board
of County Commissioners to secure the appointment of the CountyDog Warden and his.
Assistant as Rabies Inspectors for Harnett County andthe Board of Commissioners is
of the opinion that the appointment of the County Dog Warden and his Assistant as
Rabies Inspector will assure a more effective immunization and rabies control pro-
gram for the County at,lwss cost and with greated- convenience to the - taxpayer than
has been true in the past; and
WHEREAS, Dr. W B Hunter, Harnett County Health Officer, said Health Officer
being the individual vested by law with the authority to appoint Rabies Inspectors,
has bdvised the Board that he will appoint the County Dog Warden and his- Assistant
615

Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Board of Commissioners that it is fnr
the best interest of Harnett County and the citizens thereof for said Harnett

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett
County that W. B.Hunter, Harnett County Health Orficer, be and he is hereby
