The board of County Comissioners met in regular ses :ion Monday June 7th 1909.
Present R.G. Taylor Chm, W.H. Turlington, T.A. Harrington, J.A. Smith, D.P. Mcdonald, full board.
Report of J.H. Williams, Treasurer was read accepted and ordered filed.
Report of J.B. Lanier Shoff for March, April, and May ,was road accepted and ordered filed.
faniel MoCorwick having boon appointed County Suyvoror, tinderod his official bond in the sum of ono
houcanddollars, with W.J. Johnson and H.D. McCommick as bondsman the same was accepted and he was ten -
Ltered the official oaths, and his bond ordered filed.
On motion of W.H. Turlington, and seconded by T.A. Harrington, B.F. Dupree, be releivsd fron further duty
as fonts comissioner of the stock low territory of Hectors creak and Buck -horn Townships.
And on motion of mr J.A. . Smith and secanded by T.A. Harrington, that Mr J.Mobt Adams be appointed in
his place and be notified:by the clerk: of his appointment.
Bill of mr F.H. Tay1&T- : of Superior Court for making Bar dockets was refired to Attorney.
All action on fence oomission of Hectors croak and Buck -horn was deferred for the present.
Jrdered that mr J.P. Pitman be allowed to list. the land of Mrs C.T. Barnes, in Neills creek Township
containing eight and one fourth acres.
Ordered that J.D. Johnson be allowed t� place his chewing gum vendor on the side walk at his place of
business where it does not conflict with the Town authority.
Ordered that A.L. Turner of grove Township be releived of the paymenj+ of Poll tax.
Orderel tnat Chas Gain.y, on account of impaired eye -sight beroleived of.the payment of Poll tax and his
name be placed On% the permanent roll of releases of Avsrasboro Township. .
ordered that Charity Mclean be placed on. the Pauper list an b. given $3.,per •uartor and one dolar bi
given her for this month.
Or dared that Phoeby Massey be placed on the pauper list from Avsrasboro and given 03,por quarter.
Ordered that hereafter specials bills of cost due officials on account of expenses incurred for arrests
convoying priaonecs &c will will not be audited or allowed by this boardunlsss the account of such officer
shall contain a certificate of the Clerk of'the Court that a duplicate od such account has been filed with
him to unable him to tax such cost to the end that the cost advanced by the County may be recovered
in the •vent such cost is not finally taxable against the County.
Whereas J.McKay Byrd, former Register of Deeds and .Clerk of the Board of Comissioners of this County has
presented through his Attorney J.R. Baggett Esq certain County Orders for Payment as.fpllows #37 dated
.Aug 5 1898 for $31.950 # 137 dated Mch 30 1858 $7.00 #'393 dated /any 1897 $19.65 #1221.dated Sept 21 1896
$2.50 Total of $51.10. And whereas it appears to the satisfaction of the board that paid orders have boon
paid to said J.McKay Byrd by the treasurer of the County: It is therefor• ordered by the board that said
J.MoKay Byrd, or his said Attorney show cause before this board on the first monday in July 1909 why said
orders shall not be sursndered to this board for Cancellation.
Ordered by the board that on account of everything being lost by the flood of 1908 that,C.Davis, McNeill
Johnson, and Cicsro'McNeill be released from the payment of taxes for 1908. C.Davia $3.11 McNeill Johnson
$2.49, Cicero McNeill $$2.00.
And also the following Releases to be made, W.A. Pops to.b• released from the payment of Poll tax in

Be it resolved that R.G. Taylor chairman of said board and D.P. McDonald one of said board, be and
and they are hereby constituted a comittee to confer with the Carolina Engineering Company, relative to
suggestions made in behalf of said (Minty Company ,. and of the parties doing work and furnishing materi
on the bridges across Cape Fear River, in said County, so' tat if it be possible without affecting the
interest of the County in contracts heretofore, made with said Bridge company, that said Comittee shall
have the authority and do hereby receive such authority to act in any_ matter that they may see fit,so
as to help said Compamy in the completion of said bridges.' -
Whereas, it has been suggested that the contract made by the board of County Comissioners, of Harnett
County, with the Carolina Engineering Company, for the building of a bridge across the Cape Fear River
near Duke Speoifping that the pierp on each side of said River shall be built of fifteen foot concrete
base sufficient in diameter to hold two foot concrete tubes, will not be sufficient in its structure -
And Whereas, it has also been suggested, should said base be built with sufficient diameter to hold
four foot concrete tubes it would be better and more substantial,. smauctibriatttertka considering the
water at-said location.
It is also suggested that it would meet the entire approval of the county, to have said piers, to be
built of solid concrete from base to finnish, in propotion to other piers in the above mentioned
contract: Therefore be it resolved that B,G. Taylor chairman of said board and D.P. MCDonald a member
of said board be and the same are hereby constituted a comittee to confer with the Carolina Engineerin;
Company, to make any changes in the matters above mentioned that may seem to them best to the interest
of said County.
Mr Taylor the chairman was instructed to emjloy an lingineer to inspect the bridge at pilling before
it was received by the Oomissioners on motion of J.A. Smith and seconded by$ D.P. McDonald.
On motion of mr Harrington and seconded by mr Smith that the Chairman get the'time extended on the
notes now due the bank od Harnett for thirty days.
