HomeMy WebLinkAbout10061913Monday September 15th 1913, Comissioners met for the purpose of Settling with the Sheriff for 1912 taxes. and for such other business as might Dome to their notice. Present J.H. Williams Chairman B.F. Williams, P.F. Pope W.L. Senter T.A. Harrington, and B.F. Young county attorney entire board present. After going over the land sales insolvents and rebates the settlements was made in full as itemized below. The comissioners adjourned and met up in the Court room for the purpose of hearing the road proposition a by the comittee of the Harnett county good roads association. and the following resolution was introduced. tO -wit; Whereas at a meeting called to meet in the Court House in Liilington N.C. on the First Monday in September 1913, it was the consensus of opinion of the said meeting that a movement be started in Harnett County towards building good roads in said county, And Whereas, a proposition to the Board of County Comissioners by certain Citizens of the county that they would raise by private subscription the Sum of Six. Thousand Dollars to be spent in building four roads from the county Seat in each of four directions from said count beat upon condition that the said board apprppiate $8000.00 more to supplement said private subscription, And Whereas: the said proposition was submitted to the said Board at a Special Meeting of said Board held on the 15th day of September.1913- Now, Therefore be it resolved by the Board of Comissioners in Special Ms Session assembled that They,do hereby agree and bind themselves to appropiate the sum of $2000.00 to each of four roads to be built in four different directions from the county seat of said county upon condition that the Citizens shall raise by private subscription the sun of $1500.00 for each of four said roads. 2kaxxataxxfaaxtkaxskaxe The vote upon the above proposition was as follows Voting Aye B.F. Ordered that the Stills now in jail be cut up and the copper sold by the Clerk of this Board and the proceeds be credited to the county general fund. Jackson was authorized to repair and paint the roof of the Court house repair ceiling of Jail Room repair and fix drain pipes of court house roof put new water traps for the closet of the court house all for the. sum of $115.00 the work to he done at once. North Carolina Harnett County) In the matter of good road building in Johnsville Township and Barbecue Harnett County., Whereas, there is a movement on foot led by J.A. Harps and others to build certain permanent good roads in Johnsville and Barbecue Townshipe,Harnett County; and whereas J.A. Harps and o others have made application to the board for authority$ to lay out and locate said roads; and Where -as, The Board of County Comissioners of Harnett county are anxious to encourage said road building: Now, Therfore, be it resolved by the board of county Comissioners of Harnett county, 1st: That the said J.A. Harps and others are hereby authorized to layout such roads as they and their engineers may deem necessary, and they and their Engineers are hereby authorized and empowered to lay out roads and to condemn lands for the same in said Townships; said roads to be as near as practicable of a uniform width of thirty feet . That it is further Ordered by the board that the Said J.A. Harps and his Associ -ates are empowered with full authority to build said roads in such manner as they and their engineers may deem best. and the board further agrees to furnish two small bridges and the culverts.
