WEYP'T"A° it appears to the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County upon facts presented
by the Board ct' Education of said County that it is necessary, in order to maintain the efficiency
of the Public Schools of the County up to the standard required by law, that additional school
funds shall be available for the period of the present war:
i?Ow, THEREFORE, it is ordered that a special election be held throughout the County of
Harnett, at the regular established voting precincts, on Thursday, the 25thday of Afri1,191P, for
the purpose of Submitting to the qualified voters of the county the questior. of the levy and
collection of the Special School tax of 15cents on the $10r.00 worth of prolerty and 45 cents on
the poll for the purpose of supplem ^ntirg the prec:erts school funds of the County in accordance
with.the provision of Chapter 71 of the Public Laws of 1911:
That for the purlc.e of said electior there shall be a new registration of the qualified
voters, which: registration; shall be conducted be the registrard hereinafter al;ointed in accordance
with the law:
That for the purgcse of holding said electior, to serve with the said registrars, the Judges
hereinafter named are hereby designated and appointed.
That at the said election those favoring the levying and collecting of said taxes shall
vu-;,e a ballot wherein is written or printed "For Spdcial School Tax ", and thus a opposing the
levying or collecting said taxes shall vote a ballot wherein it is written or printed "Against
Special School Tax ".. Resolved further, that in the event the sais school tax is authorized it
shall be levied only so long as the present war, it which the United States is engaged, shall
continue; that the funds derived from the said tax shall be approperated exclusively to the
payment of the salaries of the Public Schocl leachers to be distributed equitably among the several
school Districts of the County without regard to whether or net such: Districts now Ieyy a local
tar:; that this Board of Commissioners further Iledge themselves that If the election herein called
shall result favorably to the special tax that the local tax r.cw levied in the several. Sch:ccl
Districts of the County will be reduced to an amount nct tc e.=eed 15 cents or the $100.00 worth
of property and 45-cents on the poll; provided, such reductionn is requested by the School Committees
or a ma;ority thereof in xx*xicxawi any such Local Tax District.
