Clerk of Court filed his report with Auditor D.P.McDonald and same accepted. Moved and seconded that D P. Whereas The Special Session of the General Assembly of 1921 passed an Act providing for the restoration of the fee system for eertaln County Officersand whereas by = in advertance said Act was made eSfective the first Monday in D cember, 1923 instead of 1922; and whereas it is understood that immediately upon the convening of the G -neral Assembly 1923 the said error will be corrected. It is therefore ordered that no salaries be paid to Register of Deeds, Sheriff or Clerk of Court until action by the next General Assembly; and that the Auditor be directed not to collect from said pfficers their fees until further oaders. Ordered that Auditor be directed to make proper charges of the items of $1210.90for expenses incurred by Sheriff on account of wounded and insane prisoners; $1310.46 for Erwin Cotton Mills note for funds furnished in bridge work and $799.00 for expense of sheriff's of- fice; these items having been credited to Sheriff by Finance Committee. TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY: We, the undersigned freeholders in the County of Harn tt, constituting one - fourth of the freeholders in the proposed special school district included within the following bounds,to -wit: Boundary to correspond to the bouzidaries of Upper Little River Township, respectfully petition your Hnorahie Board for an election to ascertain the will of the people within the proposed spe- cial school district, whethth there shall be levied in said district a special annual tax of not more them 20 cents on the one hundred dollars valuation of property and 60 cents on tghepoll,to supblement the public school funds which may be apportioned to said district by the County Board of Education is case such specialtax is voted. NORTHLAROLINA, HARNETT COUNTY. - We, the and reigned citizenw of District, Upper Little River Township, do hereby request your honorable body ti Orm a high school district of all the territory now included in Upper Little River Township, the lines to be the same as the township lines, and that you grant the people an election to-be held at some da-.e to be decided upon, to ascertain the wishes of the people in the matter of providing a special tax not exceeding 20� on the one hundred dola lars valuation of property and 60� on the poll, the same to be used for high school purposes in said township. It is our and retanding in signing this petition that the present elementary shhoole shall remain intact as they now are until such time as the people in the various districts themselves request a change in their respective districts. 'In case the election is hereld and carried the m money derived from this tax shall be used under the 7joint control of a high school committee selected from the various districts by the Board of Education and shall be for high school pur- poses only in Upper Little River Township. We also sign this petition with the understanding that the high school is to be located at Mamers, in accordance with the manority vote cast by the local school committeemen of the several districts in the township as ascertained at a recent meeting held at Mamers for the purpose, and certain absentees whose votes were later filed aith the County Superintendant in accordance with instructions given at the Mamers meeting. Buchanan, V;.J McStewart, M.ff. McNAill and E.F.YOung, Attorney. Ordered that A.H.Harper he appointed Constaple for Duke Townshipx for two years, Bond filed and sworn in. Voucher 143 above covering interest on $10,000.00 for 30 days ordered issued. Tie Board of County Commissioners and Board of Education in joint session for the purpose of adjusting the school fund and the general county fund for the year 1921. The audit for the school fund for the year was presented to the Boards and the chairman and County Commissioners, Mr.Taylor, the Attorney, Mr. Young and County Supt. were named a committees to examine the facts and report at a meeting of the t*w boards the first monday in January. It was decided that the State Law regarding the matter of turning over the tax money collected by the Sheriff to the differe6t funds to be followed: It was suggested, and the suggestion agreed to, that the Sheriff be requested to turn over to the General School fund each Monday morning the pro rata part of the taxes dollected each week. The authority to borrow not exceeding $15000.00 to assist in paying the running expenses of th C the sehoolxtxxtx until the first of the year, was given to the Charisan and Seeretary of the Board of Education. The commissioners named M.J. McNeill a committe of one to see that the foot bridge across Barbecue Creek leading towards Aircastle school was put in repair at once.
