It -was ordered that report of L.M. Chaffin„ C.S.C. be accepted and filed
and that checks for $76.95 and $9.50 be ordered - turned over to tiditor.
It was ordered that the salary of the County Health officer be reduced from
475.00 to $50.00 per month.
It Itas ordered that report of Dr. Wyatt be accepted and ordered filed.
It'was ordered that report of J.O.West, Collector of back taxes be accepted
and filed and that check for $639.78 be- ordered turned over to auditor.
It was ordered that Miss McQueen, Welfare officer and Dr. Peede, County
Health officer investigate the condition of J.E. Norris and report.to Board.
It was ordered that the Lawyers of the Pounty and other interested parties
be,envited'to meet with the Boerdof Comtuissioners to discuss the possibility
of, reating a County Cadrt. This meeting will be held on ,ugust lOth. in
joint session with the Board of Commissioners of the Towaa.of Dunn.

RESOLVED BY THE Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that if any tax
payer desires to pay taxes due or to become due by him for the year 1931 under
6e:clion 805- Sub - section -8, Chapter 428, Laws of 1931, in advance of the gppoin
Mont of a neS tax collect pr to succeed the present incnmbrent, any suchttaxes
may be paid to Steadman McLean, suditor of the `'ounty, who is hereby appointed
an agent of the county for said purposes, such collections to be made by the
Auditor without compensation, except as the same is covered by his regular
salary as Auditor.

as resolved by the Board that the salary of the Tax Collector for the
ensuing year shall be 02700.00 per annum, payable monthly, the first instalime;
to be payable on the First Monday in November, 1931.
Be it further resolved that the Tax Collector of Harnett 4>unty be allowed for
clerical help and all other expenses incident to the office of Tax Collector of
HarnettCounty, including the payment of premiums on bond& of said collector and his
assistant&, the sum of ,1800.00, the games/ to be payable in monthly installments,
the first to be payable November 1st. 1931.
It was ordered that the bond of the Tax collector for the ensuing year be fixed at
$b0,000.00, said bond to be Biased by some bonding company authorized to do business
in the state of North Carolina.

Cooke and seconded by J.H.W111iams.J.W. Gregory was placed in nomination by H.M.
&'Quinn. There being no second to Mr. Gregory's nomination a vote was taken and

of the 1931 taxes of Harnett County.

requested to employ J.W. Gregory as Assistant Tax Collector for the ensuing year.

It was ordered that the Board of Commissioners accept $450.00 from the Board of
Education as its share of the expense of the County audit made.,�Charnley and Go.
It was ordered that W.R. Avery be relieved of taxes on a valuation of 4500.00 for
the year 1930 on account of loss of house by fire.
J.S.MoLean having reported the collection of 05,000.00 from Irwin Cotton Mills
Company and $5860.00 from Carolina Power and Light Company,both being advance pay-
ments on 1931 taxes, he was thereupon ordered by the Board to make distribution of
said taxes and credit to the proper funds.

The Board of•Gommissioners -of Harriett County met in adjourned session with all
members present. Also I.R.Williame, 'ounty Attorney.
It was ordered that the following ` resolution be adopted:
'tRESOLUT ION
Whereas the Commissioners of Harnett County realizing the deplorable condition
of the roads in Harnett Bounty, noticeably since tilde operation of the roads was
assumed by the State Highway uomdaission, and on account of the fact that much of
the road machinery originally owned by the County was removed from the County by th
State Highway Commission, it is o ^dered by the Board of 9ommissioners cif 'Harnett
County that the State Highway "o maission be urged to make an investigation of the
condition of roads in Harnett County and take immediate action with a view of
improving road conditions in said County,
It was ordered that an appropriation of $625.00 be made for negro supervision work.
It was ordered that the jailor be allowed only fifty cents per day for the keep
of prisoners instead of the present sixty five cents:
It was ordered that Cariile Core be released from the payment of poll tax for
the year 1931 in Averasboro Townaaip
It was prdered ghat the approval of the Board of Commissioners be obtained by
any person or corporation desiring to operate a pool or billiard table in the'
County and` that all applications for license be published two weeks in some news
Paper published in the county and and also by posting at three conspicuous places
in the County.
It was then ordered that the Board adjourn until !august 10th.1931.

The proposition of organizing a Jounty Court was discussed with the members of
the Board of `Commissioners of th. Town of Dunn and it was ordered that a Com-
mittee composed of County Commis>ioners, Cooke, Tnnis and O'jxinn, Town Commission-
er of Dunn, C.B. Aycock; Lawyers, Salmon, F.T.Dupree and James Best and Auditor,
J.S.,McLean be appointed' to make an investigation of the advisability; of creating
this Court, the machinery for which was passed by the General Assembly of North
Carolina sveral years ago. The (committee to report at the meeting of the Board on
the First Monday in September, 1031.
