HomeMy WebLinkAbout11191928342': t MINUTES OF MEETING OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ON MONDAY NOV. 19, 1928. CALL SESSION. County Commissioners met in call session with Chairman Buchanan and Commissioners Snipes, Ingram and Hockaday present, also I.R. Williams, County Attorney, being present. It is moved and seconded that County Attorney Williams be authorized to compromise tax suit against Fannie Woodell,in which the county was snailg._, for delinquent taxes, upon the payment by the defendant of the taxes. It is ordered that County Attorney Williams be instructed to take non -suit in the tax suit of the County of Harnett against B.R. Faircloth and Wilson Incas, Jr. as it appears to the satisfaction of the Board that the taxes have been paid. AFFIDAVIT: NORTH CAROLINA, HLRNETT COUNTY. B.R. Faircloth, having been duly sworn, deposes and says; that he was the owner of that tract of land listed in the name of B.R. Faircloth for the year 1923; that said tract of land did contain 22* acres; that the taxes for the year 1923 were about $25.00; that dueing the fall of 1923 this affiant did obtain the money to,pey said taxes from Wilson siucas, Jr.; that he did pay the amount due on said taxes for year 1923 to J.W. MoArtan, Sheriff of Harnett County; that he paid the taxes for 1923 in money; that the place of payment was in the lobby of the First National Bank building in Dunn; that this affiant did receive from J.W. Mclrten a receipt fo: said taxes; that he has lost the receipt given to him by said J.W. McArtan; that he has learned that he and Wilson Lucas who now owns the said tract of land have been sued by the County of Harnett for these taxes; that neither this affiant nor Wilson Lucas owes the County of Harnett or any one else for said taxes for 1923; that this affiant does pray that the Board of County Commissioners do cancel sadd certificate of sale and that a non -suit be taken in the said case. McLean, Governor of North Carolina, be requested to call a special term of court for trial of criminal cases, said court to convene .January 21, 1929. It is further requested that no grand jury be drawn for this special term. it is further requested that Judge N.A. Townsend be assigned to preside at this special term. Passed unanimously Bovember 19, 1928. RESOLUTION: Whereas, H.T. Spears, representing the Bank of Lillington, represents that interest should not be charged the flank of Lillington sine the County's accounts are not sufficiently profitable, it is ordered that no interest be charged Bank of Lillington on the average daily balances and that a bond for $50,000.00 indemnifying the County against loss on the deposits of the County of Harnett in said Bank be filed as soon as possible. upon motion of Mr. Snipes and seconded by Mr. Hockaday, this resolution was unanimously adopted. It is ordered that the Auditor be instructed to pay the notes now due at the Bank of Lillington. It is ordered that a Committee composed of Chairman Buchanan and Commissioners Hockaday and Snipes be appointed to investigate School District deficits. It is ordered that R.L. OVERDRAFTS OF SPECIAL S cao OL DISTRICTS: RESOLUTION: Whereas, on May 2, 1927, by verbal resolution the overdrafts set out below were assumed and cancelled by the Board of County Commissioners, And Whereas, the minuted as set forth on pages 163 and 165 of Volume 5 Commissioners Minute Docket fait to show said resolution, And whereas, the Board of Education'employed Frank C. Gorham and Comp Certified Public Accountants tol audit their books for the school year 1926-192 and this audit report sets up both the overdrafts and assets of these district And Whereas, the overdrafts in these district funds were incurred in the erection and equipment of school buildings necessary for the operation of the six month's school term, Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the overdrafts as of June 30, 1927, in these special district funds as shown by the audit report mentioned above, be assumed by the county, and charged to General School Fund of the County, and that the assets as shown by the audit report belonging to these districts on the same date be turned into the general school fund of the county."
