FEB. 181, 1986.
County Commissioners met in regular Session on Monday Feb. let,
1926. Present: Jae. A. Buchanan, H.P. Ingram, J.A. Hockaday, J.G.
Layton, G.K. Grantham, Chairman, M.T. Spears, County Attorney.
Minutes of last meeting read and approved.
It is ordered that premium of $3.30 be paid for insurance of cotton
in warehouse.
REPORT OF GRAND JURY:
It is ordered that report of Grand Jury of Jan. Term be accepted
and filed.
It is ordered that bond for J.P. Bradley in the sum of 420,000.00
be accepted and filed, and that premium of $50.00 on same be paid to
Jas. A. Taylor & Son, Dunn, N.C.
REPORTS:
It is ordered that report from S.B. Caviness, Supt. of Convict Camp, be
acoepted and filed, and that all bills attached be paid to the amount of
$899.08.
It is ordered that report from J.P. Parker, Supt. of County Home, be
accepted and filed, and that ell bills attached to the amount of 4156.70
be paid. Checks attached for 425.00 and $6.65 for hogs sold, be turned
over to County Auditor.
It is ordered that report from H.A. Turlington, Tax Collector, be accepted
and filed; that commission on amount collected, $975.30, advancement on
salary. ` "
It is ordered that report from the Clerk of Court be accepted and filed,
and that checks attached for $256.15 and 4458.75 be turned over to County
Auditor.
CONTRACT FOR COUNTY HOME:
Contract for J.P. Parker for taking care of inmates at County Home and
renting county home farm for year 1926, received, duly signed, accepted
and ordered filed.
It is ordered that Resolution from Board of Eduoation with reference to
school eleotion in Cape Fear District #73, be accepted, approved and filed.
It is ordered that county order be issued to J.G. Layton for $5.00 for
provisions for Bertha Moye and Esther Darts for month of February. (husbands
on roads).
It is ordered that Herbert Griffin be re- appointed ferryman at Northington's
Ferry at $27.00 per month.
It is ordered that the resignation of G.K. Grantham, Chairman, be accepted
to take effect Feb. 10th, 1926, instead of Feb. 27th.
It is ordered that R.O. Womack be relieved of poll tax in Upper Little River
Township. (On aocount of loss of arm)
It is ordered that salary of Dr. T.W. Phillips be increased to $75.00 per
month. Members of Board voting as follows: Voting for increase of salary,
G.K. Grantham, Chairman, B.P. Ingram, and J.G. Layton; Voting against
increase of salary, Jas. A. Buchanan and J.A. Hockaday.

It is ordered that W.V. Jarman be relieved of $4.17 in Black River Township
on property which is listed in Neill's Creek township.
It is ordered that S.D. Pipkin estate be relieved of 47.46 in Lillington
rownehip- Land listed and paid by heirs.
It 1s ordered that Bennett Hockaday be relieved of 42.47 in Black River
Township- Error in valuation.
It is ordered that Roderick M. Buis be relieved of 4139.65 in Duke township.
Out of the county in 1924 and property carried forward.
It is ordered that Bernard Hudson be relieved of one dollar for dog tax in
Grove.

Resolution as follows:
NORTH CAROLINA,
HARNETT COUNTY: RESOLUTION.
Whereas the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County in regul
session Sept. 7th, 1925, acting upon a petition presented to said board , cane
an election to be held in School District #73 knowna as Cape Fear School Distri
on Oct. 20th, 1925, for the purpose of voting a tax of fifty cents on the One
Hundred Dollars worth of property in said district to be levied by the County
Commissioners; and whereas said election was held on Oct. 20th, 1925, and
carried by a small majority in favor of the special levy for the purpose of
constructing a school building somewhere about the center of said district.
And whereas, this board has been informed that there were irreg-
ularities in said election and it appearing that there were irregularities,
and that in view of these conditions it is likely that the Board of Commiss-
ioners would have some difficulty in securing the money upon said tax levy,
and whereas this Board of Education is not desirous of proceeding with the
building and constructing of a school house` in said district when there is
likely to be serious criticism because of the irregularities in the said
election, and whereas a number of the citizens of said school district #73
desire that said tax levy be not made on the strength of said election be`
Cause of the irregularities in the said election:
Be it resolved that the County Board of Commissioners of Harnett
County do not levy the fifty cent tax specified in said call for said election,
and that said board of commissioners epread upon their minutes in their regular
meeting on the first Monday in February a copy of this resolution together
with their action upon this resolution.

Bank of Lillington, Lillington, N.C. In anticipation of issuance of bonds for
road construction work or levy of special tax for road construction 'work as
per authority of Chapter 293 Public Local Laws" 1925, and that said note be
sold or hypotbenaced by the Auditor of Harnett County -and the proceeds thereof
turned into the road fund of said county for the construction of good roads.
Be it further resolved: That the full faith and credit of County of
Harnett be pledged to -the punctual payment of the principal and interest of
said note at maturityy.
Commissioners adjourned to meet at next regular meeting.
