Commissioners met in regular session. All members of Board present
with M.T. Spears, County Attorney, present with them.
Minutes of last meeting read and approved.
TAX BOOKS DELIVERED TO TAX COLLECTOR:
It is ordered that tax books for the year 1925 be delivered to
H.A. Turlington, Tax Collector, for collection, and that the said
tax books be endorsed as follows:
STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA, HARNETT COUNTY.
OFFICE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, HARNETT COUNTY:
"You are hereby commanded to collect the taxes herein mentioned
according to the provisions and requirements of the existing law."

BOND OF TAX COLLECTOR ACCEPTED:
Bond of H.A. Turlington, Tax Collector, in the amount of 050,000.00
was approved and filed.
NOTE FOR 010,000.00 AUTHORIZED:
Whereas, on October 1, 1925, a note of Harnett County for 310,000.00
plus interest matured, and
Whereas, the County did not have sufficient funds on hand with
which to pay said note, and
Whereas, G.X. Grantham, Chairman, and Mamie Sexton, Clerk, executed
a note to Bank of Lillington, dated September 28, 1925, and due sixty days
after date, and
Whereas, the proceeds of said note were placed to the credit of
General County Fund for the purpose of paying the $10,000.00 note and
interest above mentioned and other obligations of the County: now,
therefore, it is ordered by the Board that the action of G. Z. GranthaT,
Chairman, snd Mamie Sexton, Clerk, in executin; said note to the Bank of
Lillineton, as above described, be and the same is hereby confirmed and
ratified in every respect and the full faith and credit of the County of
Harnett are pledged to the prompt and punctual payment of said note at
maturity.

REPORTS FROM COUNTY OFFICERS:
It is ordered that report from Clerk of Superior Court be accepted
and filed, and that checks attached for ^599.35 be turned over to
County Auditor.
It is ordered that report from S.B. Caviness, Supt. of Convict Camp,
be accepted and filed, and that all bills attached , to the amount of
$687.27, be paid.
It is ordered that report from J.P. Parker, Supt. County Hone, be accepted
and filed, and that all bills attached amounting to 0245.81 be paid.
EMPLOYMENT AND C0_dPENSATION OP TAX COLLECTOR:
It is ordered that H.A. Turlington, Tax Collector, be employed to collect
1925 tax levy on a commission basis and that his commissions be as fol-
lows: 3% on first 050,000.00 collected and 1eo on the excess collected
over and above 050,000.00, and legal fees authorized to be charged by law
in case of levy or garnishment.
ADDITION TO SCHOOL BUDGET:
It is ordered that another school truck be bought for Upper Little
River District No. 82.
RELIEF OFTAXES:
It is ordered that John Ogburn be relieved of poll tax permanently
in Black River Township on account of being crippled.

IN THE SUPERIOR COURT,
SEPTETHiER TERM, 1925.

We, the Grand Jury for the- September Term 1925 of Harnett County
Superior Court, respectfully submit the following report;
1. We have diligently inquired into all bills brought before
us and have made returns of same into court.
2. We have examined the various County Offices and find them
in good condition and nicely kept. We wish to thank and commend out
County Fathers for the enlargement and improvement of Our Courthouse
Building. We wish to recommend that more furniture be supplied for
the Court House, and that some hat and coat racks be put up. We also
recommend that our Court House grounds be improved and beautified,
especially the front.
3. We have examined the County Jail -and find it freshly painted
inside and in very good condition. The inmates_ report that they are
well fed and well treated. It.was reported that the jail -leaks some
and we recommend that it be repaired at once.
4. We visited the County Home by committee and find three inmate,
who report that they are well fed and well treated. We found the build
ings still in need of repairs, and recommend that same be made as early
as possible. The inmates complain that their beds and bed clothing -
are bad and full of bugs, and we recommend that they be burned and new
ones furnished. One inmate, a blind man, complained that he had not
sufficient clothes.
5. We visited the Convict Camp by committee and they report
that the convicts are well fed. It' was reported that white and
colored convicts were forced to sleep in the same quarters, and we
recommend that sufficient tents be supplied to avoid this, and -that
toilets be installed in the cages. Two convicts reported that they
were badly, in need of medical attention, and we recommend that the
same be supplied.
6. We extend to the Court our thanks for courtesies shown
us during this week.

Mr. W.C. Johnson, a member of the Grand Jury, furnished transportation
for committee to the convict camp and we recommend that he be allowed and
paid Seven Dollars for same.
TO THE BOARD OF COMISSIONERS:
By order of Judge W.A. Devin I am filing this Report of the Grand
Jury with you. He asked that you note carefully the recommendations, and
wants the next Grand Jury to see if they have been complied with.

HOSPITAL BILL:
It is ordered that County pay one -half hospital expenses of Kyle
Matthews, Deputy Sheriff, which bill totals $204.00- amount to be
paid by County 102.00.
PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT:
It is ordered that shades be bought for windows in auditorium of
Courthouse.
It is ordered that one Royal Typewriter be bought for County Auditor
from D.C. White, at the price of $
It is ordered that water be put in County Club House, and that
M.Y. Spears and J.G. Layton be appointed as a Committee to have this
done.
PAYMENT OF ROAD AND BRIDGE BONDS AUTHORIZED:
It is ordered that County Auditor be authorized to pay Road and Bridge
Bonds that fall due Nov. 1st, 1925, also to pay interest on said bonds
in the sum of $1045.00.
SANATORIUM FUND:
It is ordered that $30.00 be allowed Geo. Capps at Sanatorium for the
month of Oct.
TITION FOR ENLARGEEENT OF LILLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL:
NORTH CAROLINA, PETITION FOR THE ENLARGEMENT OF LILLINGTON HIGH
HARNETT COUNTY. SCHOOL DISTRICT.
TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF HARNETT COUNTY:
We, the undersigned members of the Governing Board of the
Lillington High School District (Now Harnett County School District
No. 71), respectfully petition your Honorable Board that an election
be had in the territory hereinafter described for the purpose of sub-
mitting to the qualified voters thereof the question of enlargement
of the said Lillington High School District so as to include the
territory hereinafter described and of the levying of a local tax
in said territory of the same rate as that voted in the saia
Lillington High School District.
The boundaries of the territory in which we request the election
are as follows:
Beginning at a point on Upper Little River where same is
intersected by the Northern line of School District #11; thence East
along line of #11 to intersection of said line by Western line of
District #78; thence North along Western line of District #78 to Upper
Little River; thence up Upper Little River to the beginning embracing
territory now included in District #79.

EXECUTION OF DEED BY COMMISSIONERS:
It is ordered that Chairman and Clerk of the Board execute a quitclaim
deed to Mrs. Carrie Cloud upon the payment by John McLeod, Guardian, of
taxes levied for years 1920 and 1921, against the land. of Alice V.
