HomeMy WebLinkAbout07311925MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNTY COMLtISSIONERS ON JULY 31, 1925. The County Commissioners met in call session for the discussion of further tax matters. All members of Board being present, also LIr. H.T. Spears, County Attorney. It is moved and seconded to amend Section 14 of Privilege Tax to read as follows: "On all peddlers a tax in one -half the amount as that levied by the State." It is moved and seconded to relieve W.H. Holleman of all county tax of peddling medicine and other products in Harnett County. It is ordered to reduce the valuation of residence lot of Jas. A. Taylor from 06000.00 to 05000.00, this reduction accepted by Mr. Taylor. It is ordered tha$ the valuation of two lots, on which new houses are located of Jas. A. Taylor, be reduced from $5000.00 to 04500.00. This reduction was accepted by .:r. Taylor. It is ordered to reduce the valuation of residence lot of H.B. Taylor from 03500.00 to 03250.00. This reduction was accepted by IIr. H.B. Taylor. It is ordered that the valuation of residence lot of R. Durham Taylor be reduced from 03000.00 to 02750.00. This reduction was accepted by Ltr. Taylor. It is ordered that the valuation of Garage lot of H.W. Prince be reduced from 02240.00 to 01740.00. Reduction accepted by Ur. Prince. It is ordered that Alonzo Parrish's land be reduced from 08725.00 to 08000.00, and that Board found facts upon which to make this reduction,' and that said valuation was consented to by Hr. L.L. Levinson, Attorney for LIr. Alonzo Parrish. It is ordered that the valuation of lot of G.H. Parker be 07000.00 to 06000.00. • • It is ordered that valuation of J.W. Whitehead's property same valuation as shown on 1925 abstract. reduced from remain at the Hector's Creek Township. It is ordered that error in listing N.A. Smith's property be corrected so as to make 375 acres 017475. This valuation was consented to by Ur. N.A. Smith. It is ordered that the valuation of 178 acres of J.R. Dupree's land be reduced from "4390.00 to 04000.00. Reduction accepted by L;r. Dupree. Lillington Township. It is ordered that error in valuation of R.K. Colville land be corrected so as to value this at 34320.00, which value is 045.00 per acre. This valuation was consented to by ISr. Colville. Neill's Creek Township. • It is ordered that the valuation of 389 acres of J.A. Bett's land be reduced from 08235.00 tO 07235.00. This reduction accepted by Mr. Betts. It is ordered to reduce the valuation of 75 acres of land of W.R. Spence from 06300.00 to 06000.00. Mrs. J.B. Smith came before the Board and made complaint as to the Board's action in raising 583 acres of land from 013390.00 to 017490.00. This Board after reviewing the facts and with the consent of Mrs. Smith reduced the valuation from x17490.00 to 015,000.00. It is ordered to reduce the valuation of 146 acres of A.C.`Brown's land from 05840.00 to $5500.00, and' reduction was accepted by Mr, Brown.. In its meetings on July 13th and 14th and July 31st, as the board of equalization the Commissioners! increased and reduced the valuation of certain tracts of land, as set out in the minutes of said meetings, only after passing on each case separately and hearing and finding the facts in each separate instance; and the Board found as a fact in each case that the valuations in question had been affected by some extraordinary cir- cumstances, and in -order to equalize values found it necessary to increase or reduce the values onthe tracts set forth in the minutes of said meetings. Moved and seconded that Board adjourn 30 minutes to attend _Memorial Service of William Jennings Bryan to be held in court room. After attending Memorial service the Board met and then it was ordered that Board adjourn until first :Monday in August, 1925.
