It is ordered that covering for floors in six offices in courthouse be purchased from Armon & Co. for the sum of 4450.00. This to be a turn -key job. The following bids were received on the tank formerly used by the county and jail: Ellis Goldstein 475.00; J.G. Layton 4100.00; and it was ordered that the sale remain open for a few weeks. It is ordered that 4300,00 be appropriated for the purpose of Harnett County joining the Eastern Carolina Chamber of Commerce, It is ordered that the resignation of Neill MoK. Salmon as solicitor of Recorder's Court be accepted and filed. It is ordered that Mr. Grantham appoint Mr. M.T. Spears and J.G. Layton as a committee to investigate the question of unlisted, school taxes in Lillington School district,'; and report at next meeting of, the Board. By vote of the Board of Commissioners upon the question of electing Solicitor for Recorder's Court to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of N. MeK. Salmon, F.H. Taylor was declared elected by a vote of four to one. PRIVILEGE TAXES. It is ordered that the following tax shall be imposed as a license tax for the privilege of carrying on the business or doing the act hereinafter specified, and the license issued under this order shall be for twelve months from May 31, 1925, except where the party shall become liable for such tax by beginning business after the first day of January and prior to the thirty first day of May, in which case only one -half of the tax hereby levied shall be collected, and the tax collector is ordered to collect said tax as follows: 1. On every circus, menagerie etc. a tax in one half of the amount as that levied by the State. 2. On every carnival company etc. a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State, 3. On every public stenographer and on every public accountant other than public accountants - licensed;by the State Board of Public Accountants, a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 4. On every individual, firm or corporation engaged, in the business of buying or selling real estate, a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 5. On all real estate auction sales,, a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 6. On every collecting agency a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 7. On all dealers in second hand clothing etc. a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 8. On all undertakers, embalmers and retail dealers in coffins a tax in -th3 same amount as that levied by the State. 9. On every persons engaged in the practice of phrenology -a tax in the sam amount as that levied by the State. 10. On every individual, corporation, association, or firm engaged in the business of buying or selling bicycles etc. a tax in the same amount '. as that levied by the State. 11. On every commission merchant, broker or dealer buying or selling goods and merchandise on commission, a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 12. On all pawn brokers a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 13. On all feather renovators a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 14. On all peddlers a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 15. On every person, firm or corporation who for a fixed price or fee under- takes to construct buildings, highways or other structures, in accordance with plans and specifications prepared by a licensed architect or registered engineer, where such person, firm or corporation engages in an undertaking for a price not less than 410,000 nor more than 4100,000 an annual license tax of $50.00, and where said person, firm or corporation engages in an undertaking to cost more than 4100,000 an annual license tax of ;100.00. 16. On every company of gypsies or stoning bands of persons living in wagons or tents or otherwise, who trade horses or mules or receive rewards for pretending to tell fortunes a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 17. On each hotel a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 18. On every restaurant, cafe or cafeteria a tax in the same amount as thar levied by the State. 19. On every individual, firm, corporation or association of persons who operate billiard and pool tables or bowling alley a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 20. On each bagatelle table, merry -go- round, hobby - horse; switch back railway, shooting gallery, swimming pool, skating rink, or places for any games or plays with or without but unless used for private amusement or exercises alone a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 21. On each room, hall, tent, or other place where there is carried on any boxing or wrestling match a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 22. On every person, firm or corporation buying or selling cotton on commission an annual license tax of 315.00. 23. On each person, firm or corporation manufacturing, bottling or distributing other than in bottles soda water, coca -cola, pepsi -cola etc. a tax of one -half of the amount as that levied by the State. 24. On every persons, corporation or association that conducts contest and offers a prise or prizes to obtain subscriptions to newspapers a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 25. On every person, firm or corporation who keeps automobiles or other motor vehicles for hire a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 26. On every person, firm or corporation conducting a barber shop a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 27. On every individual, firm or corporation who shall maintain or operate a shoe shine parlor a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 28. On every persons, firm or corporation selling and offering for sale any patent right or formula a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 29. On every merchant, store keeper or dealer who shall keep in stock, sell or offer for sale any pistols or metallic pistols cartridges or cartridges used•in pistols a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State} and on every such dealer who shall keep in stock or offer to sell any bowie - knife, dirt dagger, slum shot, loaaed cane or brass, iron or metallic knuckles, a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 30. On every merchant, storekeeper or dealer selling or offering for sale cap pistols, fire crackers or other fire works a tax in the same amount as that levied by the State. 31. On every person, firm or corporation buying or selling or dealing in junk a tax in the same amount as thatlevied by the State. 32.
