Minutes of Meeting of Board of County Commissioners February 2, 1925.
County Commissioners met in regular session on Feb. 2, 1925, at 10 o'clock
A.M. All members being present: G.K. Grantham, Chairman, B.P. Ingram,
J.G. Layton, J.A. Hockaday and Jas. A. Buchanan. Also M.T. Spears, County
Attorney for the Board.
Moved and seconded that R.B. Butts be relieved of taxes on one lot in
Black River Township. Same lot being listed and paid by Baxter Upchurch.
Amount of tax $1.28.
Moved and seconded that Raleigh Savings Bank be relieved of $25.46 taxes
on property listed in Upper Little River Township, as same property was
listed by O'Quinn Bros. and same has been paid. Error in listing.
Moved and seconded that Frank Gilliam be given release for $50.05 in
Buckhorn Township. Error of $3500.00 in listing of property.
Moved and seconded that Hannibal Jones be given release for $2.96 in Averas-
boro Township. Error in listing.
Moved and seconded that $2.00 poll tax be released on taxes of David G.
Rogers in Upper Little River. David G. Rogers is now dead.
Moved and seconded that C.A. McNeill be released of $5.00 poll tax in
Lillington Township, as he is over 50 years of age.
Moved and seconded that J.A. McLeod be released of taxes on $1300.00 in
Averasboro Township. Valuation reduced July 14, 1924.
Moved and seconded that release be given Sallie S. Davis for taxes on $1000.0
Listed by error in Averasboro Township.
Moved and seconded that C.L. Sorrell be released of $26.01 tax listed in
Averasboro Township. Property also listed and paid by J.L. Sorrell in
Averasboro.
Moved and seconded that Mrs. Iana McLamb be released of taxes amounting to
$24.60 in 1923, and $27.60 in 1924. Same property listed in name of Mrs.
N.E. McLamb and taxes paid by same.
Moved and seconded that release of $3.70 be given D.D. McCormick for error
in listing dogs in Barbecue Township.
Moved and seconded that Lillie Cameron be released of taxes on $125.00
valuation of property in Barbecue Township.
Moved and seconded that Caroline Godwin be released of $15.12 taxes in
Averasboro Township. Valuation reduced July 14, 1924.
Moved and seconded that Duncan A. Cameron be released $5.15 for poll and
school tax in Barbecue Township.
Moved and seconded that W.J. Olive be released of taxes on $1200.00 being
amount reduced in valuation on July 14th, 1924. Land in
Township.
Moved and seconded that J.T. Griffin be released of taxes on $1000.00
Valuation on Averasboro Township. Tax amounting to $15.00.
Moved and seconded that G.W. O'Quinn be allowed rebate of $1.98 on property
listed in U.L. River Township through error.
Moved and seconded that rebate be given Mrs. Nancy C. Lee for $30.10 on
property listed in Averasboro School #1, and should be in #7. Error.
Moved and seconded that R.D. Hockaday be rebated $3.60 for School tax, as
he is not in school district.
Moved and seconded that J.D. Pearson be rebated $2.00 dog tax. Charged
with one dog too many.

and filed, and that he be paid $108.33 as salary for January, 1925.

It is ordered that the Board of County Commissioners endorse and under-
write the note for the Dunn Road District for 31500.00. Said note to
be due Nov. 15, 1925, said money to be borrowed for purpose of paying
bonds of said Road District in the sum of 31500.00, to be paid March let,
and taxes to be levied in the sum sufficient to pay said note.
Moved and seconded that Dermott Heating Company of Raleigh be awarded
contract to install heating system in Courthouse and Jail, in strict
accordance with plans and specifications as prepared by J.M. Kennedy,

Moved and seconded that B.P, Ingram and J.A. Buchanan be
appointed as a Committee together with Mr. Edge to make an
effort to obtain the location of a Sand Hill Experiment-
Station in Harnett County.

as to note of
Board of Com'rs.
Upon motion of J.G. Layton, seconded by J.A. Buchanan, it
was ordered that the Clerk of the Superior Court be ordered
and directed to tax in all criminal and civil actions heard
in term time a stenographer's fee of $5.00.
Moved and seconded that Jim Crowder be put on pauper list
at $5.00 per month.
Moved and seconded that Annie Buffaloe be put on pauper list
at $5.00 per month. (Mail to Jas. A. Buchanan).
Moved and seconded that County Auditor transfer $500.00 from
General County Fund to a special account at Bank of Lillington
to be used as an imprest fund for the payment of jury tickets.
Ordered that voucher be drawn for $50.00 to establish petty
cash fund.
Check for $1214.84 received for sale of 11 bales of cotton
belonging to County raised at County Home.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT
COUNTY: That one note of the Board of Commissioners of
Harnett County be executed in the sum of fifteen thousand
($15,000.00) dollars and dated February 12, 1925, and
maturing ninety days after date. Said note to be made
payable to the Bank of Lillington, Lillington, North Carolina,
In anticipation of the collection of taxes for year 1924 - 1925,
and that said note be sold or hypothecated by the Auditor of
Harnett County, and the proceeds thereof turned into the
general fund of said county.
Be it further resolved: That the full faith and credit
of the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County be pledged
to the punctual payment of the principal' and interest of said
note at maturity.
