HomeMy WebLinkAbout01081925Releases MINUTES OF MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ON JANUARY', 8th, 1925. The Board of - County Commissioners met in continued Session. All members being present, also M.T. Spears, County Attorney. Check for $100,00 from Sheriff Fowler for amount loaned him for expense of trip to Pittsburgh, Pa. received and turned over to Auditor. Moved and seconded that report of Supt. of Convict Camp be accepted, and that all bills presented by him be paid. Moved and seconded that Pope and Turnage be allowed one -half the cost of building bridge across Mingo on Jonesboro Road, or $100.00. Moved and seconded that report of J.P. Parker, Supt. County Home be accepted and all bills presented by him be paid. It is ordered that J,P. Parker be notified that no bills for cooking can be paid. Moved and seconded that resignation of J.A. Spivey, Supt. of Convict Damp, be accepted, to be effective immediately. Moved and seconded that bill presented by Town of Dunn for expense of prisoners turned over to the County be referred to M.T. Spears for further investigation. Moved and seconded that J.H. Ingram be released of taxes on $2560.00 property for 1924 taxes. Moved and seconded that all bills presented by' Clerk - Superior Court bepaid, Moved and seconded that the tax., books for the years 1920, 1921, 1922 and 1923 for Drainage District in Stewart's Creek Township be turned over to H.A. Turlington for collection. And prior to turning over books the Auditor shall make an audit of bills due and that the tax collector give bond to the amount of receipts. Moved and seconded that S.B. Caviness be appointed Superintendent" of Convict Camp. It is ordered by the Board that they spend not exceeding $2500.00 for seats in School Auditoriums - Barbecue, Bunnlevel and Kipling. It was ordered by the Board that no new car be bought for Miss Bridge, Home Dem, Agent. It is moved and seconded that the Sheriff be instructed to enforce all laws. Moved and seconded that C.S.C. be paid salary of $25.00 as Judge of Juvenile Court. It is ordered by the Board of Commissioners` that all bills must be filed by 10 o'clock on all first Mondays or they will be carried over until next meeting. County It was ordered that the County employ•Goodno & Steele to make such Audit audits as necessary to show the financial condition of the County on Dec. lst, 1924, and to install a modern and efficient system of book - keeping for the County Auditor. Also it was ordered that the County employ Goodno & Steele to audit the tax books for taxes levied for the year 1923, so as to show the amount due by J.W. Modrtan, Ex.,Sheriff, for tax eoileetions for books of year 1923. Grand Jury Report. NORTH CAROLINA, HARNETT COUNTY. SUPERIOR COURT, JAN. TERM, 1925. To His Honor, W.M. Bond, Judge Presiding: We, the Grand Jury for the January Term, 1925, of Harnett Superior Court, respectively make the following Report to your Honor: 1. We have diligently inquired into all the bills brought before us and have made returns accordingly. 2. We have inspected the offices in the courthouse and make the following recommendations: (s) That a new floor covering be provided for the Register of Deeds office, and that the walls of the office be repaired. (b) That a new floor covering be provided for the Clerk's office; that the walls be repaired, and that new chairs and desks be furnished the Clerk. (e) That a whole time Janitor be employed for the courthouse at once. 3. We have inspected the Jail and found it well kept, and the prisoners there well fed. We make the following recommendations: (a) That the cells be repainted; that the second floor so that the prisoners can be kept securely; manner; and that othe eseveraltleaks ain the oroof dber repaired datn other once. 4. That we have inspected the Convict Camp and find it well taken care of. We sake the following recommendations: (a) That different quarters for the sick and well prisoners be pro - vided. (b) That several new cots be purchased at once. 5. We have inspected the County Home and found it well kept and the inmates well taken care of. We make the following recommendations: (b) Id) That the back porch be repaired. That the holes in the ceiling on the front porch be repaired. That the whole building be repainted.
