HomeMy WebLinkAbout11071938622 November 7, 1938 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Nov. 7, 1938 with Chairman J.B.Ennis, and Commissioners Geo.T.Noel, J.S.Barker, Lonnie R.Byrd and Angus A.Cameron present; also H.C.Strickland, County Attorney, was present. It is ordered that G.T.Johnson of Buckhorn Township, be granted free peddler's license for the year 1938 -1939 on account of physical disability. The Board appointed Geo.T.Noel, L.R.Byrd and J.S.McLean as a Committee to investigate the tax valuation on the property of Mrs.Chas.Highsmith in the town of Dunn, N.C. It appearing to the Board thatthe property of D.Colon West in Anderson Creek Township, at fair market value is approximately the accrued taxes through 1938 on it, and that his family in part is a charge upon the County, and that the cost of carrying through pending tax suit when added to taxes and penalties due exceeds value of the property; IT IS ORDERED that upon payment to the County of $125.00 before Nov. 15,1938, the lien of all County taxes for 1938 and prior years be released on said lands. The County Auditor is hereby ordered and directed to pay as soon as funds are available all bills of registrars, poll holders and clerks as approved by the Chairman of the -Board of Elections for the General Election held Nov.8, 1938. It is ordered that A.A.Cameron and J.S.Barker, County Home Committee, and J.S.McLean, Auditor, be authorized to build a feed crib and sheds to the barn at the County Home. It is ordered that Howard Hobbs at Little River Service Station in Lillington Township be granted beer license for the year 1938 -1939. Upon complaint of Mrs.John Adams of East Erwin, it is ordered that J.S.McLean, Auditor, investigate the tax valuation on the mercantile stock located in Duke Township. It is ordered that A.J.Barnhill of Lillington Township, be relieved of poll tax for the year 1938 on account of disability of right arm. The report of the receipts of the office of Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that the tax valuation. of $10,000.00 on the property of Paul L.Strickland in the town of Dunn, be reduced in tax valuation to $8,600.00. The reduction as follows: lot value - g2,100.00; building - $6,500.00. The Board having found from the statement of I.R.Williams, that there is on file in the office of the U.S.District Clerk, Fayetteville, N.C. a check issued by J.O.West as Trustee -for Wilson and Lee Drug Co. to J.O.West, County Atty. dated October 14, 1930, in the sum of $376.05, which bears the notation "County Tares 1928- 1929 "• that the said sum of $376.05 is the amount of the taxes due the County of harnett on the pe rsonal property listed for the years 1928 and 1929 by the said Wilson and Lee Drug Company; It is therefore considered, ordered and adjudged that the County Auditor be and he is hereby authorized and directed to release from the lien of the taxes due on the said personal property for the years 1928 -1929 the following described lots of land located in Averasboro Township, Harnett County, N.C. which lots were listed during the years 1928 -1929 by the said bankrupt estate: (11 That lot on Wilson Avenue owned by Mrs. Donia Blackman at the time of her death. (21 Those lots described in that deed of trust from C.L.Wilson and P.A.Lee to Bank of Harnett, Trustee, which deed of trust was foreclosed. (3) That lot on Wilson Avenue now owned by the Home Building and Loan .Association, and described fully in that deed of trust from r.A.Lee and wife and C.L.Wilson and wife to I.R.Williams, Trustee for the Home Building and Loan Association, and foreclosed by him as Trustee and purchased by said Home Building and Loan Assocaition. The following road petition was presented to the Board and approved, it is ordered forwarded to State Highway and Public Works Commission: A road in Johnsonville Township leading from the "old Plank Road " to the Lee County line known as the "old Gulf Road ", this road is about 2 miles in lenght. The Board appointed L.R.Byrd, Geo.T.Noel and J.S.McLean as a committee to investigate the tax valuation on the property of Mrs.Mattie A.Byrd in the town of Dunn and Averasboro Township. The Board appointed J.B.Ennis and J.S.McLean as committee to investigate the tax valuation on the property of Mrs.Effie Allen in Averasboro Township. The Board appointed Geo.T.Noel, L.R.Byrd and J.S.McLean, as committee to investigate the tax valuation on the property of Mrs.J.'.Whitehead in the town of Dunn. X623 The Board appointed Geo.T.Noel, L.R.Byrd and J.S.McLean to investigate the tax valuation on the property of Mrs. J.C.Goodwin estate in Lillington, Duke and Averasboro Townships. It is ordered that the Auditor cause to be sent to the tax listing owner of each piece of property sold at Tax Commissioner Sale immediately after such sale, a statement of taxes, ao that within 20 days after sale they may redeem same, if they should care to do so. NORTH CAROLINA: HARNETT COUNTY: ChaNGE in County Road. WHEREAS, the State Highway and Public Works Commission has filed with the Board of Commissioners of the County of Harnett a map designated as Courthouse Map, project No. 252, showing a proposed relocation of a section of county road; and WHEREAS it appears that this resolution is for the best interest of the road system of the said county; NOW, THEREFORE, the proposed change and relocation as shown on the said map is hereby approved and ratified. It is ordered that Geo.T.Noel, L.R.Byrd and J.S.McLean be appointed as a committee to investigate the ".D.Stone estate property located on N.McKay Avenue in the town of Dunn, N.C.
