The Board of Commissioners:of Harnett County met in regular sessio can
Monday, June 6, 1938, at 10:30 A.M. with Chairman_J.B.Ennis, and Commissioners
Geo.T.Noel, L.R.Byrd, J.S.Barker and A.A.Cameron'present. County Attotney
H.C.Strickland was present also.
It is ordered that the stock of merchandise of Johnnie Williford, Black
River Township, be listed and assessed for taxation for 1938 at 2,000.00.
It' is ordered that Aicie R.Byrd, Coats, N.C., be granted license to
sell .. beer on premises.
It is ordered that beer license be granted L. *Williams, Erwin, N.C.R -1
on premises of Black River Service Station.
It is ordered that beer license be granted to Mrs. Otis Aiken, at
Angier Cafe, Angier, N.C.
It is ordered that the several registrars, poll holders and judges of
election and their lawful appointed assistants be paid for their service in
connection with the primary held June 4, 1938, when said bills shall have been
approved by the Chairman of the County Board of Elections and audited by
the Auditor.
It appearing that John Moore Lee has placed with the Auditor cheek'
covering 1937 taxes and has withdrawn the appeal noted. on Minute Docket ,No. 6,
page 531.j It is ordered that the last three sentences of said order be
stricken go that valuation will-remain $2100.00 on lot and $2150.00 on house.
Upon recommendation of the Sheriff and it appearing that the - townships
named below are without the services of constables and that the appointees
named below have been nominated to that office, it is ordered that the
following be and they are hereby-appointed as constable of their respective
townships as set forth below to serve until they or -their successors shall,
be elected and qualified;
E.B.Beasley Constable in Averasbova Township
Fletcher Bethune constable in Lillington Township
Otho E.Mangtm constable -in Johnsonville Township
PROVIDED, however, that neither of these aforementioned appointees shall serve
until they shall each give bond in the sum` of $1,000.00 to be approved by the
Board and qualified by taking the, required oaths.
It appearing to the Board that taxes on one lot in the town of Dunn,
listed in the name of W.Tom Royal for the year 1927 have not been paid and_,
that said lot was not sold at general sale for taxes for year 1927 as
required by law, and that the sales certificate for said year includes a
40 acre tract listed to W.Tom Royal but does not include the let and that
said lot was sold under mortgage or deed of trust, and Mrs. Ora Royal became
the purchaser and all taxes were paid except 1927 taxes, and that statement
furnished by Auditor's office of a former Administration did not include
1927 taxes and that innocent parties would now- suffer loss if said taxes
should be collected by reason of error of the parties in authority at the
time.
It is ordered that said taxes for year 1927 be and the same are hereby
remitted.
It is ordered that the tract of land in- Eeotorts Creek Township, listed
to Miss Dora Matthewst be reduced in value for the purpose of taxation as
follows: 25 acres @ $30.00 per acre; 27* acres C $13.00 per acre; and
10 acres © $6.50 per acre.
It is ordered that William Archie West of Anderson Creek Township be
admitted to the County Home as an inmate.
It is ordered that the tax valuation on 13 3/10 acres of land, listed to
Martha WOodall'Pasivia j Averasboro Township, be reduced in valuation from
$430.00 to $130.00.

It is ordered that County. Officials close the offices for holiday
July 4, 1938. It is also agreed that the Board of Commissioners will
regular session on Tuesday, July 5th. 1938.

Upon report of the committee appointed for the purpose, it is ordered:
(1) That the lot and filling station of Mrs. Novella Hodges on North Ellis
Avenue, Dunn, N.C., be reduced in tax valuation for 1937 from $2450.00 to $1950.00
on account of error in listing.
(2) That the pending suit by the County against the property together with
the 1936 taxes, be compromised and settled upon the basis of a reduced valuation
for those years of 20%, all cost to be paid by the defendant.
It is ordered that valuation of property in Averasboro Township, listed to
J.E.Cole estate, be reduced in valuation from $130.00 per tore to $70.00 per sore.
It is ordered that the property listing of H.A.Johnaon in Grove Township,
be corrected to show proper acreage according to a survey made by R.D.Boseman,CE.
It is ordered that A.A.Cameron be appointed to investigate the valuation of
property of A.J.Roaaer in Barbecue Township.
It is ordered that the house of Mrs. G.J.Hodges in Averasboro Township, be
reduced in valuation from $2100.00 to $1500.00 and that the five other buildings
be reduced from $35.00 to 020.00.
C.A.Dickens of Upper Little River Township, appeared before the Board and
presented the following road petition, which was approved and - ordered filed with
the Clerk to the Board : - To have a pieoe of road worked which leads from Lee
County line near George Core's to the highway near the Alex Byrd place and
known as Delcore road.
It is ordered that report of the Tax Collector be accepted and filed.,
It is ordered that report of Register of Deeds be accepted and filed..
It is ordered that the County Attorney draft and insert in the Harnett
County News notice to bidders to furnish all labor and materials and supplies
for re- indexing the public records in the office of the Register of Deeds of
Harnett County. Said bids to be opened by the Board at 2:00 P.M.June 25, 1938.
The Board recessed its meeting to reconvene Wednesday, June 15, 1938 at
10:00 to complete the business before the Board.
