The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Fet.7th.
at 10:00 A.1:'. with Chairman J.B.Ennis, Commissioners Geo.T.Noel, J.S.Barker,
Lonnie R.Byrd and A.A.Cameron present. County Attorney H.C.Strickland was also
present.
R.L.Godwin, Attorney, for John Moore Lee, appeared before the Board and
asked for review of tax valuation assessed in 1937 against property of said
John Moore Lee, known as the Tom Gerald old residence on West Broad Street,
Dunn, N.C. The Board considered granting a reduction of 0650.00 on dwelling,
leaving valuation on lot and dwelling in amount of 04250.00. Whereupon,
Lr. Godwin gave notice of appeal to the State Board of Assessment. The Board
of Commissioners then decided that in view of appeal to be taken tb the State
Board of Assessment, no change would be adopted. Notice of appeal to State
Board given by complainer and allowed.
It is ordered that the 1935, 1936 and 1937 taxes listed in the name of
Vander Murchison, Johnsonville Township, be reduced tolo.00 in valuation on
account of error in listing acreage and the 1938 listing be changed to 11 acres
valuation 0435.00.
It is ordered that beer license be granted to Warrick Ellis Dew at Dew's
Service Station in Neill's Creek Township, at Spence's Cross Roads.
It is ordered that William Alvin Stone, Grove Township, be relieved of
poll tax for the year 1937 on account of physicial disability.
It is ordered that A.L.Turner, Coats, N.C. of Grove Township, be relieved of
poll tax for the year 1935, charged through mistake, he being permanently
disabled,and the Auditor is authorized to refund to him 02.00 poll tax paid
for that year.
It is ordered that the 225 acres of land listed to D.H.Senter and M.T.Spears
in Upper Little River Township valued at 04725.00 be reduced to 03250.00.
It is ordered that beer license be ( granted to Walter C.Bass and Jesse Cutts
in Neill's Creek Township on road between Buie's Creek and E.M.Currin's place.
It is ordered that tax valuation of that lot of Yrs. L.H.Lee, Jr. on North
Wilson Street in Dunn, N.C. be reduced to $750.00 on account of repairs made
.sine -April 1, 1937, and before assessment. Lot being 33 1/3 x 140 feet.
It is ordered that the tax valuation of the lot of Jesse B.Lee on corner
of Wilson & Cumberland Streets, in Dunn, N.C. be reduced 01000.00 on account
of repairs made since April 1, 1937. Lot being, 33 1/3 x 140 feet.
It is ordered that tax valuation of Dr.I.F.Hicks' dwelling on South King
& Divine Streets be reduced by 0500.00 on building.
The Board appointed a Committee composed of A.A.Cameron and J.S.McLean to
investigate the tax valuation and acreage on property of J.D.Patterson in
Upper Little River Township/
It is ordered that free peddler's license be granted to J.T.1%hittenton,
Dunn, N.C. R -3 for year 1938 on account of physical disability.
It is ordered that W.D.Page of Angier, N.C. be granted free peddler's license
for the year 1938 and that he be relieved of poll tax for the year 1938, he
being a disabled veteran.
It is ordered that valuation on residence of Airs. Slocumb S.Davis in
Averasboro Township, be reduced from 07,000.00 to 06,000.00 because of error in
transcribing figures.
It is ordered that property of A.& R. Baer in the town of Dunn,,N,C. be
valued at 04400.00 for the year 1937. (Building 02,000.00 and lot 02400.00).
It is ordered that property listed to $icy McKee and Ella Townsend located
in town of Dunn, N.C. be valued at $805.00 for year 1937 and subsequent years.
Clarence B.Hood, of Dunn, N.C. appeared before the Board and asked that
the Board endorse the movement of the State IIighway Safety Division to exhibit
motion pictures throughout the State as an educational program tending to safe
automobile driving. The Board unanimously endorsed the movement and expressed
its desire to make an appropriation of 4:50.00 for the expense of the film in
the next budget.

It is ordered that the valuation on the 50 acres of Withers land listed
in the name of Mrs.Loula McCormick, be valued at $990. instead of $1140. on
account of error in timber.
It is ordered that the County Auditor correct the listing of 56 acres of
Lett land listed in the name of Arch Womack to 43 acres. It is also ordered
that the County Auditor issue releases for the years 1935, 1936 and 1937 in
the amount of $1.75 for 1935, $1.75 for 1936, and y$}1.75 for 1937, on account
of above error in listing. It is also ordered that the 43 acres of land be
listed for 1938 in the name of the owner of record at a valuation of $365.00.
WITEREAS, it appears to the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett
County that some adjustment is equitable on the taxes levied against a house
and lot on 10th. Street in the town of Lillington, listed in the name of
Chas.Ross and wife.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Harnett County that J.S.McLean, Auditor, be and he -is hereby appointed to
make such adjustment in the taxes on the property above referred to as is
fair and equitable.
The following road petitions were presented to the Board, which were approved
and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission:
(1) To give a road from Highway.Noi 60 at D.P.Cameron's place by whatever
route the Commission thinks best across to the Mt.Pisgah Road near
D.A.Cameron's home, a distance of about 3 miles.
(2) To take over and maintain a certain road in Grove Township, about -one
mile in length leading from Turlington - Sorrell Road to the Coats- Benson
Road at a point just West of M.E.Ennis home place.
