August 23, 1937.
The Board of County Commissioners - convened Monday, August 23, 1937, upon the
expiration of the recess. Those present were: Chairman J.B.Ennis and
Commissioners Geo -. T.Noel, t S:Barker, Lonnie R.Byrd and Angus A.Cameron.
Mr. Reid Ross, Assistant
Board, and explained that an
available, whereupon, it was
as to show an allocation for
Supt. of Education, approved on behalf of that
additional George Reed Home Economics teacher was
ordered that the Budget of said Board be BO amended
the purpose of $800.00.
It is ordered that the Tax Collector be and he is hereby directed to levy and
garnishee for the collection of taxes appearing unpaid on the tenative insolvent
list for 1936 taxes,' -and that notice to this, effect be published in Harnett
County News and the-Lunn-Dispatch.
It was ordered that the petition for a surface treated road from Highway
Nos. 55 and 210 at Angier, to Rawls Church on U.S.Highway No. 15- A,.thence via
Duncan and Aventle -Ferry to Sanford, be filed and be taken up for consideration
of the State Highway-Commission.
The following is a part of the minutes of the meeting et the Board of
Education held August 19, 1937, at which time the school budget for 1937 -38 was
amended as indicated:
"The Board voted unanimously as being -in favor of plafllg a George Reed Home
Economics teacher at Benhaven School.. To take care of the expense of this
teacher, the Board unanimously. gave_ its approval to the_amendmen.t of the school
budget for 1937 -38 es follows:
Code 626 -24i to be increased from;3,910.. to 5,285.
Code 626- 2 -B'to be increased .from. to 666.64,
Code 6824 to be increased from $8,689.30 to $8,889.0.
The totals of Current Expense and ..Capital...Outlay..budgets to be_.0ianged accordingly.
In receipts the following'changes_ were made:
From State funds to be received for Vocational_Agriculture, the amount is to
be changed from $6,649.50 to $8,866. From State funds the amount to be received
for Home Economics is to be changed from $1,755. to 43,523.33. The total receipts
for Current Expense from sources other than:taxes_is to be changed from $27,201.30
to $31,186.13, which leaves $13,864..85 to be raised from taxes instead of
$16,308.02.- "
It--is ordered that $7.00 per month be allowedJ.Kent Norris of Averasboro
Township, for a period ending December .31,.1937.
The Board recessed to re- convence at call of the Chairman.

The Board of Commissioners of Harnett .County .met in regular session on
Monday, Sept. 6, 1937, with Chairman_J.B.Ennis,. and Couunissioners..Geo.T.Noel,
Angus A.Cameron and Lonnie R.Byrd present. Absent: .Commissioner.J.S.Barker.'
The County Attorney, H.C.Strickland, was present also.
It is ordered that beer license be granted to Raymond P.Jakeman on Highway
No. 60 in Neills Creek Township.
It is ordered that free peddler's license: be granted to_G.T.Johnson of
Buckhorn'Township : on accounty of physical disability.
Division Highway Commissioner Honorable.D.B.McCrary, and Division Engineers
L.E.Whitfield and Hough visited the members of the. Board _aad.suggested that the
Board review road petitions and recommend the roads to be improved . in. - the County.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that the
following tax levy for the year _1937- 1938.be and the same_ is hereby adopted:

1 Upon motion of Commissioner Byrd, seconded by .Commiss.ioner .Noel, the
foregoing resolution was unanimously. adopted. Voting for its adoption were
Commissioners Noel, Byrd and Cameron.
It is ordered that the report of the Tax Collector be accepted and filed.
It is ordered that the report of Register of Deeds be accepted and filed.
There being no further business, the Board recessed to re- convene at the
call of the Chairman.
