HomeMy WebLinkAbout07081937July 8, 1937 The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met Thursday, July 8, 1937, at 9:00 A.M. upon expiration of the recess of Monday, July 5, 1937. The following business was transacted: A motion was made by Commissimsr J.S.Barker seconded. by Commissioner A.A. Cameron that the vote by which the nomination_of C.R.Ammona..for the office of County Agent to succeed J.O.Anthony in that office, whose term expired June 30, 1937, which vote was taken by the Board June 26, 1937, be reconsidered. The Chairman put the motion. Voting for the motion to reconsider the vote by which said nomination was made were Commissioners Cameron and Barker. Against were Commissioners Noel and Byrd and Chairman Ennis. The motion. therefore failed to carry. A report was received through the Clerk that names appearing on the several petitions submitted to the Board requesting the re- election. of J.O.Anthony as County Agent for another term, were checked against the indexed..signers of the Soil Conservation program contracts. The Clerk had the help of three assistants and four assistants in the County Agent's office. The. check .up disflosed that of more than 1200 purported petitioners only approximately one fourth were identified as being signers of the Soil Conservation program contracts. It was ordered that I.R.Williams former County Attorney, be advanced 4500.00 against his compensation for Clerk hire abstracting and drafting complaints and starting suite against.348 tax payers already_in Auditor's office for verification or filed with Clerk of Superior Court. It was ordered that policy No. D- 402328 of Fire Association of Phildelphia on the Courthouse in amount of 42,000.00 be accepted and the premium of 432.40 be paid. It is ordered that license be granted to P.P.Creech.of. Dunn,_ to operate three pocket billiards tables at the Fairview Service Station on the Dunn -Erwin Highway for a period of 12 months ending..June 1, 1938. It is ordered that school budget for 1937 -38 which was presented by Reid Roea, Assistant Supt. of County Schools, be approved and placed on file. 486
